Iโve never seen someone hold a guitar like Tom T. Hall is here. Itโs practically in the rafters. Legend.

Don't think I've seen any late-night sickos posting this Robert Duvall clip yet. Here you are, sickos.

I clipped these two bits when this interview first appeared, and I have routinely rewatched them, and they have brought me untold joy

Am I misremembering the culture, or were we all really into the "Dark Was the Night" compilation in 2009 and then no one ever mentioned it again?

A rare (only ever?) wordless statement from Mr. Dylan. Here's another:

Last night in North Carolina, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings say fare you well to Phil

Great to see that the next Dave's Picks is a '91 show. Boston was sizzlin' on 9.26.91 (until the third song when Beantown got Wang Dang Doodle'd)!

As much as we all love the Phil bombs, with a nice quiet number you can really hear how melodic and beautiful his style could be

As someone in NYC during whatever the "hipster" period was, ok, the Lumineers existed, but what I saw on a weekly basis was more like this Oxford Collapse. Sweaty, sloppy in the best way, not focused on commercial success, and above all exuberant. There was nothing wrong with it.

Once you hear what Jerry Garcia Band could do with a Beatles song, a Beatles version of a Beatles song sounds like Kidz Bop

I'd always thought that Van's famous "Last Waltz" high kicks were spontaneous, but here he is, dressed not unlike Mike Teavee, doing it three years prior, on "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert"

It's incredible that there's no live footage w/ audio of pre-reunion Velvets. This new fan-made vid does a great job of simulating it, with clear audio from a separate performance that lines up well. (That they're playing outside on a sunny day makes this even more interesting.)

Final round!! You've all voted, and our bracket of the best Springsteen songs of all time pits "4th of July" against "Incident on 57th." (It seems we've got some serious "Wild, Innocent" fans out there!) So which one are you picking as the champ?

Mavis Staples put out an astonishing record last year, and to my thinking, despite Leonard Cohen, Gillian Welch, Tom Waits, and a (sort of) Bob Dylan cover, it's the Kevin Morby number that's the centerpiece. This live version with him is quite all right.

I'm a big fan of the maligned 1973 Lee Hazlewood album "Poet, Fool or Bum" (NME's one-word review was just the word "bum"), but I've never seen this Finnish TV clip before. Love it when the fellas come on in.

Finally, next month, "Homicide: Life on the Streets" will be streaming for the first time ever. I know of no other TV show that has used Lou Reed's "Busload of Faith" โ and certainly none that has done so diegetically.
