Spotted the best dog of the year.

I love it when a no-budget movie hits me with a shot out of nowhere that makes me go "Whoa."

I jump to my feet and scream "YESSSSSSS!" as the movie does a stylistic flourish I've never seen before:

All CGI action can be exciting! It's just very very very rare.

This is your regular reminder that in the year 2000, Paul Rudd, with frosted tips, appeared in the Hong Kong film GEN-Y COPS as a bad guy (kinda). In the movie, he does martial arts, fights a robot, and, most shocking of all, does an entire scene in Cantonese.

Absolutely wild that the 80-year-old Yasuaki Kurata is still swordfighting in movies. There is no doubling in this scene!

Stephen Chow is very funny.

I wish you could take a film executive aside, show them this scene and make them understand that if this was done all with CGI, it wouldn't even make an audience blink... but because it's all done practically... It feels exciting, alive and present.

It's a little abrupt, but the "original ending" to ACE VENTURA: PET DETECTIVE, before they did test screenings and had to do massive reshoots, does solve a lot of problems I have with the third act of the film. I'm surprised it doesn't get talked about more!

I love to see filmmakers these days shoot fight scenes in big wides and adopt a sloppier style of combat, in which the participants' entire bodies are used as weapons.

There's always a new movie to be discovered, where ladies in colour-coded rain slickers with mermaid tattoos rob a bank by being so attractive that the staff just hand over the money.

Hideaki Anno has seemingly made one of my dream movies with SHIN KAMEN RIDER.

ALMOST INVISIBLE (2010) is the most nightmarish film you can watch on Tubi this Halloween season. I have not edited this at all. Imagine witnessing this brain-sizzling editing/writing/acting style for 95 agonizing minutes.

DOCUMENTARY OF BABY ASSASSINS (2024) truly captures the exhaustion of shooting an action scene: The repetition. The pain. The heat. Even if both actors do it perfectly, if the camera is too slow, it can't be used... Urgh.

The Japanese SHIN ULTRAMAN Blu-ray has a lengthy special feature in which all the fights from the film are made to look like they were shot in the 1960s—and there are a bunch of new comedy fights, too!

I don't understand why I find the ending of MARMADUKE so funny - a bunch of CGI dogs pathetically dancing to What I Like About You never fails to put a giant smile on my face.

I wish companies would appropriately credit action coordinators on films. For example, if I knew that Yuji Shimomurahad had done the new CITY HUNTER, I would have watched it instantly, but I only learned he worked on it because I follow him on Twitter. He is not listed on IMDB.
