In Tarkovsky’s Andrei Rublev, young Boriska claims “I know a secret! My father knew the secret of copper for bell casting. When he was dying he passed it on to me. Nobody, not a single other person knows it, only I know it! Only I! Boriska then organizes the village artisans,working for months, casting a giant bell from scratch. Boriska collapses alone in the mud where Andrei Rublev finds him sobbing as the bell rings for the first time.
