In Tarkovsky’s Andrei Rublev, young Boriska claims “I know a secret! My father knew the secret of copper for bell casting. When he was dying he passed it on to me. Nobody, not a single other person knows it, only I know it! Only I! Boriska then organizes the village artisans,working for months, casting a giant bell from scratch. Boriska collapses alone in the mud where Andrei Rublev finds him sobbing as the bell rings for the first time. Boriska confesses that his father never passed on the secret before dying and took it to the grave.
