🏴 England vs 🇦🇷 Argentina in a World Cup semi-final... The universe has a strange sense of humour. In 2014, Top Gear travelled to Patagonia expecting to end their trip with the ultimate finale: An England vs Argentina football match. Instead, one registration plate number changed everything. H982 FKL. Many Argentinians believed the Porsche 928 GT registration number was a reference to the 1982 Falklands War. What happened next sounds like a scene from a film: - Police ordered the crew to leave the country. - The trio & co was chased with police escort. - Eggs and stones were thrown. - Production cars were damaged. - The satellite phone couldn't get a signal to contact the UK Embassy - The team escaped towards Chile. The football match never happened. For those who don't know the history 🇫🇰: In 1982, Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands. Britain responded by sending a task force over 8,000 miles across the Atlantic. After 74 days of fighting, Argentina surrendered and British control was restored. Now, 2026. England and Argentina meet again - No Protest. - No Intervention. - No Police escort. - No escape route. ...Just 90 minutes. After Patagonia cancelled the first one...
