🎥 + 💭: sinothando "There’s something almost unreal about thresher sharks. 🦈 That impossibly long tail, the slow and graceful way they move through the blue. It looks like an animal from somewhere else. Seeing one takes patience. They spend most of their time deep, and the encounters happen early, before sunrise, at cleaning stations on seamounts where they rise up to get worked over by wrasse. You get in the water in the dark and you wait. And for all that presence, a thresher is shy. They spook easily, they keep their distance, and they pose no threat to a diver. What they do matter to is the reef itself. Predators like this keep the whole system in balance. A quiet reminder that the most extraordinary animals are usually the most misunderstood." #MarineMonday #ThresherShark

🎥 + 💭: IG @/oceanscollin “As kids, many of us were taught to fear sharks. Movies, television, and headlines made them out to be ruthless predators lurking beneath the surface. Then I met them. What I found were some of the most peaceful, curious, and misunderstood animals I've ever had the privilege of being in the presence of. Sharks aren't the monsters we grew up fearing. They're an essential part of a healthy ocean and a reminder that wild places still exist. This Shark Week, maybe it's time we stopped being afraid of the wrong things.” 🦈 #SharkWeek continues TONIGHT at 8P on Discovery #MarineMonday #Maldives

🎥 + 💭: IG @/earth2audge “There is a moment when the school closes around you and the rest of the ocean disappears. No horizon. No surface. Just fish in every direction, moving together, completely unbothered by your presence. It usually lasts only a few minutes, but it stays with you a lot longer than that. Moments like this are becoming rarer. The ocean is losing its abundance faster than most people realize. The decisions we make today will determine whether this still exists tomorrow. Places like Cabo Pulmo, Mexico chose to protect their waters. This is what the ocean looks like when we let it heal.” #MarineMonday #CaboPulmo #OceanConservation

🎥 + 💭: IG @/andriana_marine The moment they choose you✨ This beautiful tiger shark comes up to me in a curious, non-aggressive way wanting to use her sense of touch, smell, and her ampullae of lorenzini to explore what I am. You can see the shark is not biting or snapping at me, rather approaching to investigate and learn. Peaceful moments like this with sharks are more common than you think. And it is possible for us to coexist with sharks. To safely have interactions like these it takes years to understand the shark’s behavior and body language. But encountering sharks under the watch of professional guides is something that will truly change your life🦈 #SharkWeek returns TOMORROW on Discovery #TigerShark #SharkDiving #SharkDiver

📸 + 💭: IG @/kendallrosephoto “Tiger sharks get a bad reputation as ‘mindless killers’, but that’s not fair… They are curious animals, not ruthless predators out to attack anything that moves. Encouraging negative stereotypes with names such as this ignores how important they are for keeping our oceans healthy. Like most sharks, they’re a lot more complex than the scary stories and media make them seem." #SharkWeek returns TONIGHT on Discovery
