Videos

One of the most famous stories of Mother Angelica: She ordered a $600,000 satellite but didn't have the money to pay for it. When the delivery truck arrived, she still didn't have the money, so she went to the chapel to pray, "‘You know, Lord, I guess I've messed this up." Mother Angelica thought that perhaps she had not fully understood God’s will, and out of desperation, prayed, “Is there anything You could do to help me with this?” There was. One of Mother Angelica’s nuns came to the chapel, saying that there was a man on the phone who wanted to speak to her. Initially, Mother Angelica brushed her off, and then changed her mind and answered the call. The man on the other end of the call was on a yacht in the Caribbean. His son, who was struggling with drug addiction, had come across one of Mother Angelica’s mini-books, and that book prompted him to enter rehab and change his life around. The man wanted to make a donation to Mother Angelica out of gratitude for what she did for his son. And so he said, "I want to send you $600,000,” which happened to be the exact amount needed for the satellite dish. "Do you think you could wire transfer that to me?" He did, and that satellite dish still stands on EWTN's main campus today, and has been the principal uplink antenna to broadcast EWTN’s programming around the world. These are the kinds of stories we share time and time again because they're the stories of our EWTN Family's legacy and our humble beginnings. We want to share that with you at the EWTN Family Celebration in Tysons, VA on August 30! Get all the details and save your spot at

When we grieve, suffer, or hurt, what good is in that? As we're filled with sadness over the assasination of Charlie Kirk, the murder of Iryna Zarutska, the memorial of 9/11, the countless school shootings, catastrophic natural disasters, bloody religious persecution, and the endless conflicts and wars across the world, we wonder - Where is God, and what good could possibly come about? Mother Angelica, who was no stranger to pain, illness, suffering, and sorrow, reflects on the awesome goodness of God and how we can unite our suffering to His. Evil does not have the final word, and the Lamb is victorious. Tell us how we can pray with/for you here.

Can you imagine? The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains the difference between venting and gossip like this: Respect for the reputation of persons forbids every attitude and word likely to cause them unjust injury. He becomes guilty: – of rash judgment who, even tacitly, assumes as true, without sufficient foundation, the moral fault of a neighbor; – of detraction who, without objectively valid reason, discloses another’s faults and failings to persons who did not know them; – of calumny who, by remarks contrary to the truth, harms the reputation of others and gives occasion for false judgments concerning them (2477). #Catholic #CatholicChurch #MotherAngelica

Let us pray fervently for our new Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV.

Join us in this worldwide fast on October 22. Why? Because Pope St. John Paul II said you should. In his encyclical “The Gospel of Life,” JPII wrote: “…a great prayer for life is urgently needed, a prayer which will rise up throughout the world. Through special initiatives and in daily prayer, may an impassioned plea rise to God, the Creator and lover of life, from every Christian community, from every group and association, from every family and from the heart of every believer. Jesus himself has shown us by his own example that prayer and fasting are the first and most effective weapons against the forces of evil (cf. Mt 4:1-11). As he taught his disciples, some demons cannot be driven out except in this way (cf. Mk 9:29). Let us therefore discover anew the humility and the courage to pray and fast so that power from on high will break down the walls of lies and deceit: the walls which conceal from the sight of so many of our brothers and sisters the evil of practices and laws which are hostile to life. May this same power turn their hearts to resolutions and goals inspired by the civilization of life and love.” (Evangelism Vitae, 100) He was referring especially to the horror of abortion. Decades later, we are still surrounded by a culture of death. The tragic bloodshed this year, and the shocking contempt for human life has made it increasingly clear that demons are very real. And Christians everywhere are rising up, realizing we must do more. When the heroes of salvation history (Moses, Esther, Ninevah, Daniel, Our Lord Himself) were confronted with demonic strongholds, they turned to prayer AND fasting. Let us do the same. If your health permits, you can join the many who will be drinking water only! Others might add bread, or stick to the standard fast and abstinence practiced by Catholics on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday (1 full meal, 2 small meals that together ≠ 1 full meal). Sacrifice more than you want to, that’s the key! "Love to be real, it must cost—it must hurt—it must empty us of self." - St. Mother Teresa “The devil is much afraid of fasting, prayer, humility, and good works.” - St. John Vianney

God is always with me. Always with you. He never leaves you a moment, so you're never alone. He knows what we suffer. We have to take our suffering and unite it to His and say, "Lord, I unite my headache with Your Crown of Thorns. I unite my aches and pains with Your pain-wracked Body. I unite my fears with Your Agony in the Garden. I unite my misunderstandings in my life with all the times You were misunderstood." You take what you have, and you give it to the Lord. The Exaltation of the Holy Cross today and the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows tomorrow remind us, during this month of tragic bloodshed, that even in our darkest hour, the cross is not something to fear or flee from, but embrace... as we confront evil and hardship filled with the love of the Christ who has conquered sin and death.

“I die serene because I have not wasted even a minute of my life in things God does not like.” – Saint Carlo Acutis Carlo, the teenager who loved Jesus in the Eucharist and used his talents to share the faith online, is remembered as a model of youthful holiness. His feast day is celebrated on October 12. May his example remind us to live every moment for God and to keep our eyes fixed on eternity.
