🚨NEW: On the anniversary of 9/11 at the New York Yankees/New York Mets game, a man wearing a Palestinian flag ran out onto the field and was immediately tackled by NYPD officers and dragged off. Fans could be seen throwing drinks and food at the man as he exited. Unreal.

25 years ago, my dad was delivering the business headlines on the BBC when the first plane hit the North Tower. He was scheduled to do a solo segment before handing the show back to the main anchors. But the anchors had gone on a break, and so he found himself covering the first few minutes of what would become one of the most devastating breaking news stories in history. I’ve always admired the calm and professionalism with which he handled those first uncertain moments, and his ability to pull random facts about New York City from memory as the story unfolded. A true pro. Forever my role model.

Thanks Brendan Pedersen. Lummis told us Senator Hawley is “really resistant.” He didn’t vote for GENIUS and the expectation is that he also won’t vote for Clarity, although discussions with his office are said to be ongoing. Other GOP resistance appears to be driven by concerns from the banking sector over the bill’s stablecoin yield provisions, as Brendan has been reporting. One plugged in industry source told me yesterday that, given the pressure from bank lobby and some Republican concerns, they expect at least some changes to the yield section before the bill reaches the floor, although unclear if the tweaks would be enough to satisfy the banks.

🚨NEW: In an exchange with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent at the U.S. Senate Banking Committee GOP FSOC oversight hearing, Senator Mark Warner said he believes Bessent will be invited to the Senate Banking Committees next ‘round robin’ on crypto market structure, happening “later today or tomorrow or Monday.” Warner also joked that he feels like he’s been living in “crypto hell.”

🚨NEW: The GENIUS Act has officially passed the Senate. I caught up with U.S. Senate Banking Committee GOP Chair Senator Tim Scott after the vote. He called it a “historic day for our nation” and said the focus now shifts to market structure. “Let’s get this party started.”

🚨NEW: We asked Coinbase 🛡️ Head of U.S. Policy Kara Calvert 🛡️ whether talks had resumed with Banking Committee members after the company’s surprise withdrawal of support for the market structure bill forced the committee to delay its Thursday markup. “It was definitely a shock to the system. We want to be respectful of the fact that blood, sweat and tears have gone into this bill.”
