This Dog & Pony Show is called creating a relationship. Skip it at your peril. In the hundreds of M&A deals I have worked on, the relationship between a buyer and seller (created over drinks and dinner) is the best indicator of whether a deal will close. An M&A deal is far from dollars and cents; it is an emotional roller coaster and the relationship is the glue that gets a deal to closing. My #1 advice is to do the opposite of what this moron suggests - invest in dinners, drinks, and anything else that builds goodwill with your counterparty - you will need it.
