UPDATE: Driver who claimed his Tesla Autopilot sent him barreling into a grandmother's home has been charged after data shows he manually overrode the feature. Michael Butler, 44, sent his Tesla 70 MPH into the home of Martha Ávila, 76, killing her as she was trying to put away groceries. Butler claimed his autopilot malfunctioned, but Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s head of AI, found that he floored the accelerator pedal and overrode the self-driving feature. “In this case, the driver manually overrode self-driving by pressing the accelerator all the way to 100% of the accel pedal in this residential area... They reached a speed of 73 mph during the crash, and had the accelerator pressed even after the crash.” Butler was charged with manslaughter and is being sued by the family of Ávila.

ALERT: Brazen thieves stole luxury cars and a $500,000 sculpture from the home of a couple who recently died in a helicopter crash. Henry Parra, 55, and Adam Hlavaty, 42, were 2 of the 7 people who died after a safari helicopter crashed into a mountain in Kenya. Police say that Geybert Alexander Garcia and Melany Perdomo broke into Parra and Hlavaty’s Florida home and ransacked it a week after their deaths. According to the arrest report, Garcia, 40, and Perdomo, 24, “ransacked the residence and removed numerous items belonging to the decedent such as personal and business documents, jewelry, electronics, and artwork.” A stolen Porsche Taycan and Land Rover were spotted in the driveway of Garcia and Perdomo’s home, along with an art sculpture valued at $500,000. Garcia’s attorney, Paul Basile, presented a document allegedly stating that he has granted permission to use the vehicles and to have access to the property. Although the door was busted in, they tore down the security camera. A family friend alleges it is impossible because they were out of the country when the document was signed. Garcia and Perdomo are being held without bail after the judge found the document to be suspect.
