Five years ago today, the last U.S. soldier left Afghanistan, ending America’s longest war and leaving the country under Taliban control. Margaret Brennan spoke with former Afghan Gen. Haibatullah Alizai, who led a last-ditch effort to stop the Taliban from sweeping control of the country. He reflected on the bond between Afghans and the U.S. “We have shared blood together for 20 years,” he said. “Whatever happened, still, this is the right side. I have some hope.”

Three NBC journalists and a Palestinian woman they were interviewing were attacked by Israeli settlers in the Israeli-occupied West Bank on Saturday. Video released by NBC shows masked men hitting the TV crew with sticks and rocks. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the attackers as "rioters" and called for an investigation.

As the U.S. and Canada prepare tit-for-tat tariffs after trade negotiations broke down, Republican gubernatorial nominee for Michigan Rep. John James (R-MI) says negotiators should “go back to the table, stop acting like children, and negotiate a fair, mutually beneficial reciprocal deal that will benefit the United States of America and Michigan.” When asked by Margaret Brennan whether he would ask the White House to back down from the tariffs, he says, “We're already talking with members of the trade team, and we'll be continuing to engage with them so we can avoid those things…It cannot be borne on the backs of Michiganders.”

Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan said the bank estimates the FIFA World Cup has generated about $20 billion in economic activity in the U.S. Moynihan also said he is “absolutely not” surprised by the turnout or spending despite high ticket prices. “It's having this on-the-ground economic impact, and that spending is going into…bars and restaurants and things like that, not necessarily only the people in the stadium,” Moynihan said.
