This video of an Uber driver with Tourettes Syndrome in the US was made famous because her passenger couldn't pronounce the condition and became known as TREX and shows several dimensions of this condition. I first met someone with Tourettes in Scunthorpe while volunteering for my church. The lady attended the same church and her husband was a church Elder. During dinner, she suddenly screamed and came out with several F-words. It was not something I would have expected nor ever imagined could happen. But it did. My young, sanctimonious and self righteous self was initially shocked at what just happened. That 21y/o boy from East London had never come across this before. I was educated well that evening by the lady and learned an important lesson. I learned the importance of being a bit less quick to judge and condemn. That there are people among us who go through things they have no control over, and but for the grace of God go I. Fast forward to today, and I am reminded how tolerance in society still has a very long way to go - especially for those we don't understand. It knows no race, religion, sexual orientation, nationality etc. Just saying 😔 (Excuse the very strong language in this video. It is not shared as a great example of safe driving either)

Coming out of Stratford Tube station this evening, I saw these highly professional chaps directing some people to go towards what looked like a metal detector arch. I took the time to briefly introduce myself, ask what they were doing and to thank them for their brilliant work. The police cannot be everywhere, doing everything, all the time. So it was good to see this sort of partnership work with Westfield Stratford City. Well done. 👌🏼

In 2016, the then Conservative Prime Minister, David Cameron, commissioned the then backbench Labour MP, David Lammy to conduct a review and investigate racial bias in the criminal justice system of England and Wales. The report known as the Lammy Report was published in 2017. It's proven to be quite a significant report in many ways in shaping government policy, information collected by institutions in our CJS, and areas of focus. Ironically, one of the key findings of the report was that black people were disproportionately more likely to be negatively impacted in non-jury trials as they were in jury trials. Judges were overwhelmingly older, white, public school educated, middle class men. In his view, jury trials provided greater protection against the structural issues he found in his own report. Fast forward to 2026. The same David Lammy is now a Rt. Hon. Justice Secretary, proposing to create MORE non-jury trials. Some of the reasons are to save money, clear backlogs, and get faster justice for victims. Watch this fantastic speech by former Justice Secretary and King's Counsel, Sir. Geoffrey Cox MP. When politicians are willing to destroy core tenets of our democratic and liberal society to save money (which never happens), etc. we don't have leaders - we have institutional saboteurs.

The case of Henry Nowak is extremely disturbing because of a life tragically lost, but also the wrong message it also sends. We're missing the mark. I remain the biggest supporter of policing, but something has clearly gone wrong. My condolences to Henry's family and loved ones. 😞

The shooting of a 14-year-old boy in South East London is absolutely tragic and my condolences to the young man's family. Should the Met be cutting the number of detectives, police officers, and staff at this time? Experience from the austerity years should have taught us that cutting police numbers only makes the public less safe. The government seriously must look into the funding situation. There is a policing and public safety crisis on the horizon which could be worse than anything faced between 2010 and 2016.

While I was in Manchester last week, I did the same thing I did in London today in between work meetings. The relatively young-in-service officers (who all look so young, or it's me getting older), are a cohort I have huge respect for. Here is a fact. Policing is not for everyone and many that apply to join do not get to the attestation stage. Some that do, drop out thereafter or do not pass. So, those that get through the training and get on our streets deserve encouragement, mentoring, and support - not ridicule. We all used to be new at something once. It was a real honour to meet those new Metropolitan Police officers as I did those from Greater Manchester Police officers, chat with, and thank them for their work. To those of you; young and not so young in service 😀 - thank you for all that you do to keep us safe all year round. Chin up. 💙

Losing a parent is tough, and losing one that you were close to can be very punishing. I was not expecting this to happen today while campaigning on the council estate where I grew up in Canning Town, East London and the flat our family lived in. I thank God my mother is yet alive. If you still mourn the loss of a loved one - I feel you. I really do. They say time heals; I am no longer sure of this.

On Thursday 4th July, I will be voting for Bim Afolami Afolami. I'll always remember the support he gave me as Police and Crime Commissioner to get the game-changing Special Grant for the 2024/25 financial year. He gave me his word. He delivered on his word. I am backing Bim.
