Well-maintained… I mean the Prof. Nnena Oti bus terminal. The escalator still works, and it feels like an airport.

I met this guy selling ice cream in Enugu and asked how he handles his money. On good days he makes ₦7,000–10,000 profit. He pays his rent, stays single, and still manages to save. He has a First Bank account, but that’s not where most of his money goes. Instead, he gives it to an older man he trusts “like a father.” The man holds the cash, and the seller writes the date and amount in a book. No interest, no app, just trust. Why not the bank? He said he feels banks “use our money wrong” and spend it. So he keeps the account for when he needs to borrow, but for real savings he prefers the person he knows won’t touch it. That’s the gap. He is banked, but he still keeps his money outside the system because he doesn’t fully trust it. Informal trust still beats formal banking for him. Interesting

This machine won't cost $50,000 Even if you buy one per ward, but you want to build an airport

The surprise of this war to me has been the UAE I had perceived them as “soft”, but those guys are as hard as diamonds they retail in their malls Not just their military, but the resilience of their economy in operating under extreme heavy fire Iran has fired more missiles at the UAE than Israel. The UAE is the most heavily targeted country in the conflict, yet the Dubai International Airport is still open, and oil is still being exported. The UAE raised oil exports through the Fujairah port to 1.9 million barrels per day (a 57% increase). The magic word is resilience, but you can't have resilience without redundancies That's a lesson for all policymakers

A friend travelled to Abia from abroad; he had not been back there for decades. He sent me videos. He was amazed. He was not amazed at the roads that were fixed, the cleanliness of the public roads, or even the airport-style bus terminal; he was amazed it took just 36 months. He said he would casually ask everyone- market women, hotel staff, bus drivers- and they all said the same thing: they were happy with their Governor. He told me that around 10 pm, he drove to see a friend; they went out to sit and had a beer. It was completely peaceful and safe. He said the only "negative" was that land prices in Aba have skyrocketed; he wanted to buy land in Umuahia and Aba, but he could not afford it. We should not celebrate roads built with FAAC, but Abia shows that a leader who has a plan can do a lot in a short time if the people see you are working. This governance thing is not hard; you are given FAAC to spend, so why not spend it well? What is hard is picking one road, 5 schools, 2 hospitals a month and doing them with FAAC? In 3 years, you would have fixed 36 major roads, 180 schools, and 72 hospitals.
