In my response to the New York Times today, I shared my perspective on the University of Oklahoma student, Samantha, who received a zero from a teaching assistant. As elected officials, our duty is to protect the God-given rights of the people—their constitutional freedoms—and ensure responsible stewardship of their tax dollars. Taxpayer-funded universities must be held accountable.

Oklahoma and Broken Arrow, Here is a more detailed video on the growth and development of Islam in America, in Oklahoma, and Broken Arrow. It’s important to note that in 2010 there was legislation to ban Sharia Law (or “international law”) in Oklahoma (HJR 1056 - 2010) which passed the house & the Senate. This measure then went to a ballot where 70% of Oklahomans voted in favor (2010). In 2012, it was the United States 10th circuit court that upheld a lower courts decision in shooting down this measure, under the guise of “freedom of religion” after this voter decision was challenge in court. But there’s a problem with that argument as well…

There are so many observations we can pull from this story. God is doing something greater. If we have eyes to see and ears to hear. There many distractions, what are Republicans saying? What are democrats saying? What is the media saying? What I want to find in this, is what is God saying? Shoutout to Samantha Fulnecky for speaking what needed to be said. This is accurate to the world we live in whether people acknowledge it or not. I said it before, I’ll say it again, I didn’t see a single untrue claim in her writing. #OU #Oklahoma #Education #Truth #HigherEducation

I didn’t expect to be outnumbered four to one, but I think this discussion went well. Earlier today on MSNBC, we discussed PragerU in Oklahoma classrooms. At one point the hosts leaned on the false narrative of “book banning” and seemed to dismiss the historical reality that slavery has existed across the world since the beginning of time. America is an incredible nation—one that has confronted tragedy, abolished slavery, and continues to strive for greatness. I appreciate the host’s questions and the opportunity to share my perspective today.

SB1054 was presented on the House floor today, proposing to continue taxpayer-funded scholarships as a form of reparations for the descendants of those harmed or killed in the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. While my heart goes out to those families, this bill does not provide direct support to the actual survivors of this historical injustice. Instead, it places the financial burden on today’s taxpayers for actions committed over 100 years ago by other people—something I believe is not the responsibility of today’s Oklahoma taxpayers. To shift this bill from what I view as a liberal policy to a more conservative approach, I filed an amendment that would have required: •A minimum 2.5 GPA (to match Oklahoma’s Promise), and •An essay on the history of the Tulsa Race Massacre, for students to be eligible for the scholarship. This would have made the scholarship merit-based rather than an entitlement, encouraging academic achievement and a deeper understanding of Oklahoma’s history. A motion was made to table my amendment, but it was voted down 51 to 30. As a result, the amendment was debated and considered on the floor. Ultimately, my amendment failed with a vote of 40 YES to 45 NO. The underlying bill, SB1054, narrowly passed the House with a vote of 54 YES to 28 NO. I am considering seeking further action on this legislation.
