Stephen Houlgate, a Hegel scholar, says that Hegel's Science of Logic doesn't see dialectics as a "method" to be applied to something, but rather dialectics is immanent in the matter at hand. He sees Marx's view of dialectics as close to Hegel's, but says Engels misses the mark.
