This week I participated in the Rome Summit on Ethics and Artificial Intelligence inside Vatican City. I shared that we do not fear AI—nor do we think AI is the solution to every problem. Part of our message has also been that a faith and ethics AI evaluation will help ensure that every person of faith—and their beliefs—can be portrayed accurately, honestly, and with respect.

Each of us is blessed with unique skills through which we can learn from one another. It was a joy to visit with Elder Saxon Baltzer—a wonderful example of one who uses his talents to draw others closer to Jesus Christ. The Lord’s restored Church can be an incubator for a Zion community. As we worship, serve, enjoy, and learn His love together, we anchor each other in His gospel. We may disagree politically or on social issues but find harmony as we sing together in the ward choir. We nurture connection and fight isolation as we regularly minister with our hearts in each other’s homes and neighborhoods. When we let Him, Jesus Christ helps us speak His love here.

At BYU Education Week we discussed three spiritual applications of seeking wisdom and understanding as part of our lifelong learning efforts. First, we studied instructive scriptural passages which contain the words wisdom and understand. Second, we considered scriptural wisdom and understanding to place the current conversation about artificial intelligence (AI) in gospel context. Third, we discussed striving to incline our ears and apply our hearts to understand that Jesus Christ can bless and heal each of us. No matter what else you hear today, I hope you will hear that, in His time and way, every glorious blessing in the restored gospel of Jesus Christ is meant personally for you.

We celebrate the living Jesus Christ at this season of Easter. He came and comes to heal the brokenhearted, deliver the captives, recover sight to the blind, and set at liberty those who are bruised. Because He knows our pains, afflictions, sicknesses, our “temptations of every kind,” (Alma 7:11) He can, with mercy, succor us according to our infirmities. #BecauseofHim
