Last week I highlighted the scandal of 17,000 Chinese students on temporary visas being allowed to vote in Scotland’s election, a policy that dilutes real Scottish voices and opens serious security risks. Now it turns out one of them, 21-year-old Tianrui Liang, an aeronautical engineering student at Glasgow University, was arrested at New York’s JFK airport on 7 April while flying back to Scotland to vote. He’s accused of illegally photographing sensitive US military aircraft, including “doomsday planes,” at strategic air bases.

We were taught the history in school. That’s fine. What we refuse is the idea that we inherit the guilt. I do not carry the moral debt of people who died before I was born. Neither does anyone else alive in Scotland today. Collective ancestral burden is not justice it’s a political weapon. By the way this same woman who declared that the whole of Scotland “was and still is racist” is the one demanding we accept that permanent stain. No. We are not our ancestors. We are not their crimes. And we will not be made to live under their sentence.
