📅 April 8, 1974 Mud released the single “The Cat Crept In” on RAK Records. A swaggering, hook-packed slice of Chinnichap glam-pop written and produced by Nicky Chinn & Mike Chapman, it followed their massive hits “Tiger Feet” and “Dyna-mite.” The stomping A-side was backed by the band’s own softer track “Morning.” The single entered the UK chart at No. 8, peaked at No. 2, and spent nine weeks on the chart. #Mud #TheCatCreptIn #ChinnChapman #GlamRock #OnThisDay #1974 #RAKRecords

Today marks the anniversary of the passing of Brian Connolly, the iconic lead singer of the glam rock band The Sweet (often known simply as Sweet). He passed on February 9, 1997, at the age of 51 in Slough, Berkshire, England, from kidney failure, liver failure, and a series of heart attacks. Brian Francis Connolly was born on October 5, 1945, in Hamilton, Scotland (though he grew up in London). He became the charismatic frontman of Sweet from 1968 to 1979, bringing his powerful, distinctive voice and flamboyant stage presence to some of the era’s biggest glam rock anthems. The band exploded with hits like: • Block Buster! • The Ballroom Blitz • Fox on the Run • Teenage Rampage • Love Is Like Oxygen (co-written by the band, showing their evolution from bubblegum glam to harder rock) Sweet sold millions of records and became synonymous with 1970s glam excess— Long (black) hair, platform boots, and infectious hooks. Brian’s blond locks and confident swagger made him a standout. After leaving Sweet, he attempted a solo career and continued performing with his own version of the band (sometimes called Brian Connolly’s Sweet), but health issues took a heavy toll. Despite the challenges, his legacy endures through those timeless tracks that still get crowds singing along. With his powerful voice and infectious stage presence, Les helped create some of the biggest hits of the 1970s: •“Tiger Feet” •“Lonely This Christmas” •“Oh Boy!” •“The Cat Crept In” Mud brought pure joy, energy, and glam magic to the charts. Slade's Flame Soundtrack Ballad How Does It Feel released as the second single from the band's first soundtrack album and fifth studio album Slade in Flame on February 7, 1975 in promotion of the film of the same name. The song was written by lead vocalist Noddy Holder and bassist Jim Lea, and produced by Chas Chandler. It reached No. 15 in the UK, remaining in the charts for seven weeks. The melody for "How Does It Feel" was the first one Lea composed while still in school. He conceived the idea on an old piano, which he later described as missing half its keys. Although the tune didn't progress further at that time, Lea revisited it later for the theme of Flame. Holder wrote the lyrics, and it became "How Does It Feel". The song included a brass section performed by members of Gonzalez. In the band's 1984 biography, Feel the Noize!, Lea recalled, "It was an old song I'd written, and Nod added some great lyrics to it. Tommy Vance said it was good but warned we might face challenges. However, I didn't care whether it was number one or number 15... to me, it was a much better record than we'd made before, and that was all I cared about." Personally I love the track, and think it was deserving of much higher place than 15. How do you feel, about this release?
