This bill criminalizes the victims of crime. If a criminal breaks into your car and steals your firearm, YOU get in trouble. It was already bad policy, but the Conference Committee made the bill even worse. It specifically exempts members of the General Assembly from the law! It’s yet another example of “rules for thee, but not for me.”

My speech on the Senate floor this morning. The people who will have to live under the consequences of this map, including many in my district, turned out and fought against gerrymandering. But the dark money from out of state, special interest groups, and DC politicians barely dragged this amendment over the line. Now this moves from the ballot box to the courthouse. The question now is whether the Supreme Court of Virginia will enforce the rule of law.

Virginians have been very clear: get rid of the Car Tax. Members of both parties, including our Governor, campaigned on eliminating it. So I introduced a budget amendment to do just that. But when given the opportunity, Republicans were the only ones who voted in favor of repealing it. Virginians want action, not lip service.

Why are national Democrat groups spending $20 million to gerrymander Virginia’s congressional districts? The answer is very clear: in 2021, two-thirds of Virginians voted to end partisan gerrymandering. Now they’re trying to go against the will of the voters to undo that decision.

The Virginia Supreme Court weighed in on the Gerrymandering Amendment appeal. They’ll decide whether the amendment process was lawful AFTER the referendum vote. That’s backwards. But at least it’s now clear that it’s up to us to save Virginia. Let’s go 🇺🇸

Senate Bill 749 bans commonly-owned firearms based on their features, instead of targeting those who are committing the crimes with guns. It does so in a way that turns everyday Virginians’ peaceful conduct into a crime. Let’s be clear: criminals already ignore the law. This bill creates a new way to prosecute those who were never the problem.

Virginians didn’t elect Gov. Spanberger to prioritize political narratives over kitchen-table issues. They wanted action on affordability. Gov. Spanberger’s “Sanctuary State” policy puts extremist politics over public safety. When Virginia law enforcement can’t work with federal partners, criminals benefit, not families.
