I just don’t think it gets talked about enough that positioning is also a big reason why batting averages are down (along with velocity). If you wanna blame the “nerds” for why batting averages are down, ok, blame them for this. This is a hit 100% of the time “back in the day”.

An “eerie silence” as this ball left the Flagler College field headed for US -1, then quite possibly the Atlantic. As most at this game had never seen a ball hit that far…. no data, but the looks of those watching tells me it was an outlier for distance and EV. Dawson Harman
