Today, we unveiled a new statue of Juan Ponce de Leon at Florida's Capitol, honoring the explorer whose arrival in 1513 marked the beginning of Florida's written history and gave our state its name: La Florida. Florida's story began long before statehood or even at America's founding—it stretches back more than five centuries and helped shape the nation we know today. As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, Florida is leading the way by preserving and celebrating our history. While others tear down monuments and diminish our heritage, we are honoring the men and women who helped forge our civilization and teaching the next generation to take pride in our state's unique role in the American story.

I signed legislation to end Disney’s self-governing status, placed the area in state receivership, and appointed 5 members to a state control board. Disney no longer has its own government, will live under the same laws as everyone else and pay its debts and fair share of taxes.

At my direction, the Florida National Guard and the Florida State Guard will be deployed to critical ports affected by the strike to maintain order and, where possible, resume operations. It is unacceptable for the Biden-Harris administration to allow supply chain interruptions to hurt people who are reeling from a category 4 hurricane.

Major credit card companies have attempted to monitor the transactions of firearm retailers and consumers through unique merchant codes, which could then be used to “flag” law-abiding citizens. The legislation I signed today will end this practice and will protect Floridians.

With my signature, Florida permanently prohibits genital mutilating surgical procedures and experimental puberty blockers for minors. Minors given these procedures without their consent will now be able to recover damages for permanent injury or death caused by these medical experiments.

Florida tax payers have been hit by local property taxes as many local governments have increased their budgets significantly. Today, I am calling on all Florida counties and municipalities to voluntarily work with our Florida DOGE team to review local spending and financial practices. In Bay county, the county commission will be adopting a resolution to collaborate with Florida DOGE and review finances. Thanks to Bay County, FL for leading by example.

Republicans in the Florida House voted to undo millions of dollars in cost savings that I instituted last June when I signed the budget—and have voted to undo more than $60 million in cost savings over the past two months. This represents misplaced priorities. Floridians deserve action on protecting medical freedom, strengthening laws to combat illegal immigration, relieving condo residents of higher costs, and enacting a Florida-first tax package that provides real relief to Florida residents on their property taxes.

We can't have every illegal alien housed in (and filling up) our jails. So, 'Alligator Alcatraz' it is—and we're looking to set up a site at Camp Blanding as well. Florida will be a force multiplier for the federal government and continue to lead the nation in immigration enforcement.
