A 20-year-old phone seller, Olusola Olumide, has narrated how he crushed a police sergeant to death in Lagos. While on stop and search duty along Olugbede Street in the Egbeda area of Lagos State, police officers signalled Olumide to stop. He initially stopped but suddenly sped off as Sergeant Johnson Okediji approached the driver’s side. The officer was knocked down and dragged underneath the vehicle for several metres, despite repeated attempts by police officers and passers-by to make the driver stop. The driver was eventually chased and arrested. The officer sustained multiple fractures and head injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital and subsequently referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Pastor Enoch Adeboye has clarified that his participation in a placard carrying procession during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration was part of a prayer walk organised at the directive of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), not a protest against the former president. “I carried the placard, I can't deny that, but I did not carry it in protest against Jonathan. It was a prayer walk,” Adeboye said, urging the public to verify information before sharing unconfirmed reports. Visit for more updates. #PastorAdeboye #GoodluckJonathan #CAN #GuardianNigeria

Residents around Ikotun Market and Ejigbo Road have resorted to dumping refuse on highways, amid complaints over inadequate waste collection and the absence of visible Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) operations in some streets. The development comes as illegal dumpsites and refuse heaps persist in parts of Ejigbo, raising concerns over sanitation, public health and the environment. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu recently declared a “small state of emergency” on waste management, while announcing plans to increase waste-disposal capacity, deploy more equipment and restructure LAWMA’s operations.
