Ian Wright says another World Cup would settle the Messi vs Ronaldo debate forever... but not the Messi vs Maradona debate. "Maradona is a flawed Genius" "They're different players, different characters." "I think if he (Messi) wins it, it settles the Ronaldo debate... not the Maradona debate." "I'm sure there are Argentinians that won't have Messi over Maradona."

Paul Scholes says Argentina have been LUCKY at the World Cup, and predicts they’ll “all kick off” if England knock them out. “I think England and Argentina’s paths have been very similar. I don’t think either team has played that well, but they’ve got through games. You think of them against Egypt, they were lucky. Really lucky against Cape Verde. The biggest advantage Argentina have is that they’ve done it before. They know how to win these big games. They won the last World Cup. We’re yet to prove that. This will be chaos. This could be 4–3 either way. There’ll be yellow cards, red cards. If Argentina lose, they’ll all kick off. Absolutely guaranteed. And this game runs deep. If you lose to them, it’s horrible. Remember France ’98?”

Gabriel Batistuta explains why Diego Maradona is still above Lionel Messi. Batistuta: "I think they are difference." Rio: "How?" Batistuta: "Because Messi scored 1,000 goals and Maradona scored 200. Maybe not." "Messi is a quiet boy ... Maradona wasn't." "For me, Maradona was the top because he could play..." "...he could manage the referee..." "...the opponent." "He was able to do unbelievable things." "Messi can do that..." "...but I think he has another charisma." Rio: "It's funny because I read a quote... it says Messi, even if he's technically as good or maybe even better, he can't surpass him. Lionel Messi does not have Maradona's charisma." Batistuta: "Okay, that I say that." Rio: "Yeah, you said this a few years ago." Batistuta: "So I'm the same."

Roy Keane says Jude Bellingham is the best midfielder in world football ahead of Vitinha, Rodri and Pedri. Gary Neville: "Who's the best midfield player in the world right now? Who is the best?" "We talk about Ronaldo, Messi, Kane, Mbappé, Haaland... but we never really talk about who's the best midfield player in the world." Roy Keane: "Rodri's a different type of player." Gary Neville: "Bruno?" Roy Keane: "Would you put Bruno in that bracket?" Gary Neville: "With what he's done at his club over the last five, six, seven years, the numbers he's hit are out of this world. You have to put him in the conversation." "Pedri's another one." Ian Wright: "I'd say Jude Bellingham." Roy Keane: "Come on... we're talking about form, the occasions, producing the big moments." "His work rate as well." "Even in the games when he wasn't scoring, his work rate, hunting people down, running back..." "A lot of attacking players come back to help out, but he's coming back because he wants to get the ball back."

Wayne Rooney admits Cristiano Ronaldo may now have changed the GOAT debate. “I think what he’s doing… to be honest, over the last couple of years, I’m thinking, you know what, he’s probably going to be the one when you look back." "Because he keeps going." "I think his last three seasons, he’s top goalscorer in Saudi." "I absolutely love Messi, love watching him play. That was the only reason, because I think Messi had a little bit more in terms of how he played, taking players on and wherever." "Ronaldo was a killer."

Michael Owen explains why Kylian Mbappé is BETTER than Haaland and Harry Kane. "There's efficient centre-forwards. We've spoke about Kane, Lewandowski as well... and Haaland." "They're never going to let you down. They're always going to score plenty of goals." "But in big games, in the most precious moments... he can take a game away from someone." "If you're a centre-half, I don't think you're losing sleep if you're going to mark the players I've just mentioned." "None of them are going to beat you for skill." "None of them are going to run away from you." "None of them are going to strike fear." "But Mbappé will." "He's got the ability to embarrass you." "If he gets you out wide... a bit of skill... his touch is brilliant." "Raw pace." "He can finish." "He can take the game away." "And somebody that can take a game away from you through brilliance has got to be the best."

Gary Neville says Lamine Yamal is the greatest teenage footballer of the last 50 years. "I think Yamal could be the best teenager we've seen in the last 30, 40, 50 years. Well, to win the Euros with Spain." "100 games by 17" "Win the Euros." "Played at 16 in the European Championships." "I don't think anybody had that impact in the last 30 or 40 years as a teenager. I can't think of anybody."

🚨 Paul Scholes takes issue with England’s celebrations after reaching the World Cup quarter-finals, "Mexico are a bang-average team": Scholes: "I’d say the semi-final is probably the first time you can really celebrate. or you beat a major team." Scholes: "Thomas Tuchel has done nothing yet that Gareth Southgate hasn’t done." Butt: "Sorry, I’m not being funny, England aren’t Cape Verde. We’re not celebrating just because we’ve won a game. That England squad should be getting to at least a semi-final." I’m not going against the England euphoria from the game. I was buzzing that they won. I was thinking, 'Get in there'. I want England to win it. I love England fans, I love the passion and I love seeing the lads having a good time. We had great times when we won things. But we are a top, top team with world-class players. You’re talking about Bellingham, Kane, Rice, all these players. They’re winners. They win things with their clubs. Guéhi has been brilliant. We’ve got to be better than that. Celebrating for five minutes on the pitch is fine because you’re celebrating with the supporters who have paid a lot of money and travelled halfway around the world. I understand that. But in the changing room, somebody has got to say something". Scholes: "You’ve talked about the altitude, the Azteca Stadium and the atmosphere. They had only lost there twice in around 87 games. But people did forget that Mexico are a bang-average team."

Clarence Seedorf reveals why he turned down Manchester United. Rio Ferdinand: “So who approached you then?” Seedorf: “Well, I had Arsenal and Manchester United and Real Madrid when I went from Sampdoria to Real Madrid. After Madrid, the same thing more or less, Manchester United again, and then I went to Inter Milan.” Rio Ferdinand: “Why are you going to Inter before Manchester United? What's this?” Seedorf: “R9 was playing at Inter.” Rio: “Okay, I understand. I understand.” Seedorf: “Lippi... one of the best coaches at that time. He called me. He said, ‘I want you to come and play behind Christian Vieri and Ronaldo. I said ..” Rio: “You can't say no.’” Seedorf: “When and where? I need to present myself.” Rio: “I'll drive myself.”

Wenger says Mbappé’s 37.4 km/h top speed makes him almost impossible to stop. "I would say if you take the top speed of the top five French players, they're quicker than everybody else in this tournament. So, you speak about Mbappé. Mbappé's top speed, 37.4. So, how can you fight against that? Spain is perfect technique and perfect team intelligence and game intelligence has to be perfect. Spain is maybe the team who can fight against such physical superiority. But overall, you see because the spaces are very short now for the players, you need top-level technique or to be very explosive."

Robert Lewandowski reveals the moment he knew Lamine Yamal was different. "He was 15. Really 15. I've seen a lot of young talented players, but for the first time in my life I had this feeling inside: 'Wow, who is it?' You see players and think, 'Okay, he has something special.' It was a little bit like that with Musiala too. But with Lamine, my first thought was: 'Wow, this guy... how is it possible that at this age he's already at this level?' Even when he was 16 years old, I was still thinking: 'Come on, it's impossible to be so good, so clever at this age.' I always try to give him some advice because what he's doing is amazing. But the biggest challenge for him isn't the next two or three years. We're talking about the next 10 years."

🚨 Thierry Henry questions why people still doubt Kylian Mbappé. “I know great players that never won the Champions League. And we're not judging them because they didn't win the Champions League. We are judging them on how they were, what they gave us, and how much joy we had when we saw them play. You have guys that never won the World Cup. So obviously now, Kylian is playing, he's active, and we're always like, ‘Yeah, but he still didn't do that.’ ‘Oh, you know, he still didn't do that.’ ‘He still didn't score 100 in one year.’ Who scores 100 even in their career? I'm obviously joking, but I'm saying sometimes... The guy already played in two World Cup finals, scored in both of them, scored a hat-trick in one, and we're still like, ‘Ah, you know what? I'm not too sure.”

Gary Neville predicts Kylian Mbappé will win France the World Cup. Ian Wright: “You know what he looks like? I'll tell you what he looks like. Obviously the captain, he looks hungry” Gary Neville: “Do you know when you watch Mbappé live and electric, it's like something completely, utterly different. It's like you watch him and you just think, the movement, the speed of it. And I just think, 'Oh no.'” Ian Wright: “He's got that thing where you see him doing stuff and he's telling people, he's got the energy for it. You could see that he's somebody that realises, ‘I'm the man here” Roy Keane: “Maybe he's after a disappointing club season, you know what I mean? It's not worked out for him there. And maybe he's... yeah, he looks up for it” Gary Neville: “I think, you know, everyone's talking about, obviously rightly so, Messi. Ronaldo's got a lot of scrutiny. I think this is Mbappé's tournament. I think he comes... Look, he was special in that final in Qatar. If you think about what happened in that last half an hour, it was unbelievable, right? What we saw. I think he's a World Cup winner. I genuinely do. I think he's winning his country the World Cup.”

Ian Wright says Kylian Mbappe could go on to be the greatest World Cup player ever. Ian Wright: "Watching him the other day, when I went and watched him live against Iraq, you could tell there's something different about his energy and the fact that he is the leader of the team. Right, Pat? He's the leader of the team. You could see it. You know, almost like he's welcoming people in. You see the celebration with Dembélé, who has won a couple of Ballond'ors or could go on to win another one. He's embracing it. I think that he's gone to that place where he's the leader of this team, and he's not bothered about that. Just maturity as well." Roy Keane: "Is that just maturity as well." Ian Wright: "Yeah. I think so. Roy." Roy Keane:: "Getting a bit older, a bit wiser." Presenter: "He's 27 now. You know, he's been in the game for almost a decade." Patrick Viera: "He's a different player from the last World Cup. He's got more maturity. He understands the game much better, about how he has to bring the players around him because, at the end, he needs those players to perform." Presenter: "He's only two goals behind Messi in terms of World Cup scorers." Ian Wright: "Yeah, but when we look at it, he's won the World Cup when he was 18. He just missed out on penalties in '22, and now he's in another one. You know, we're talking about somebody who could probably go on to be the greatest ever in respect to the World Cup. But at the moment, at 27 now... it seems like he's in exactly the right place where he needs to be right now."

Roy Keane says Cristiano Ronaldo’s billionaire status hasn’t killed his hunger. “What you have to admire with Ronaldo though, on top of everything else, how brilliant he is. Gary mentioned before the game, this guy’s like a billionaire, won everything bar the World Cup. The hunger and that desire to keep getting in there, desperate to get more goals in the second half. To me, that’s where the great example is for these lads. Again, we know they can be criticised, of course, for maybe sometimes his body language, but that desire, hunger to keep trying to get goals”
