Paul Scholes questioned Cristiano Ronaldo's place in Portugal's XI just days ago: Ronaldo responds with 2 goals. 🥶 "I feel he is a little bit of a problem. At 41 years of age, I think there's only one position on the pitch at 41 years of age you should be starting a game and that's goalkeeper for me." "To me, he has to be like a last 15 minutes"

🚨 Paul Scholes takes issue with England’s celebrations after reaching the World Cup quarter-finals, "Mexico are a bang-average team": Scholes: "I’d say the semi-final is probably the first time you can really celebrate. or you beat a major team." Scholes: "Thomas Tuchel has done nothing yet that Gareth Southgate hasn’t done." Butt: "Sorry, I’m not being funny, England aren’t Cape Verde. We’re not celebrating just because we’ve won a game. That England squad should be getting to at least a semi-final." I’m not going against the England euphoria from the game. I was buzzing that they won. I was thinking, 'Get in there'. I want England to win it. I love England fans, I love the passion and I love seeing the lads having a good time. We had great times when we won things. But we are a top, top team with world-class players. You’re talking about Bellingham, Kane, Rice, all these players. They’re winners. They win things with their clubs. Guéhi has been brilliant. We’ve got to be better than that. Celebrating for five minutes on the pitch is fine because you’re celebrating with the supporters who have paid a lot of money and travelled halfway around the world. I understand that. But in the changing room, somebody has got to say something". Scholes: "You’ve talked about the altitude, the Azteca Stadium and the atmosphere. They had only lost there twice in around 87 games. But people did forget that Mexico are a bang-average team."

Ian Wright says Kylian Mbappe could go on to be the greatest World Cup player ever. Ian Wright: "Watching him the other day, when I went and watched him live against Iraq, you could tell there's something different about his energy and the fact that he is the leader of the team. Right, Pat? He's the leader of the team. You could see it. You know, almost like he's welcoming people in. You see the celebration with Dembélé, who has won a couple of Ballond'ors or could go on to win another one. He's embracing it. I think that he's gone to that place where he's the leader of this team, and he's not bothered about that. Just maturity as well." Roy Keane: "Is that just maturity as well." Ian Wright: "Yeah. I think so. Roy." Roy Keane:: "Getting a bit older, a bit wiser." Presenter: "He's 27 now. You know, he's been in the game for almost a decade." Patrick Viera: "He's a different player from the last World Cup. He's got more maturity. He understands the game much better, about how he has to bring the players around him because, at the end, he needs those players to perform." Presenter: "He's only two goals behind Messi in terms of World Cup scorers." Ian Wright: "Yeah, but when we look at it, he's won the World Cup when he was 18. He just missed out on penalties in '22, and now he's in another one. You know, we're talking about somebody who could probably go on to be the greatest ever in respect to the World Cup. But at the moment, at 27 now... it seems like he's in exactly the right place where he needs to be right now."
