The government failed to provide adequate intelligence or support to prevent coordinated attacks on more than 20 of its military bases, where Al-Shabaab successfully overran the positions, looted weapons and vehicles, and killed the majority of Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers. As a result, Al-Shabaab later released videos featuring interviews with captured soldiers, as well as footage displaying government-issued weapons with identifiable serial numbers and official military vehicles. Despite this failure, the government is now attempting to take credit for the defense efforts led by a clan in Hiiraan, who defended their own territory without meaningful support from Villa Somalia Ministry of Foreign Affairs 🇸🇴. Hawadle provided their own weapons, vehicles, fuel, food, and other resources necessary for the fight. This video footage was captured by a local reporters to monitor the movements of Al-Shabaab, both on foot and in vehicles, prior to the attack.
