Surely you have time for a 15-second teaser for a Chinese action/sci-fi blockbuster about soldiers fighting giant birds with blue tongues. 749 BUREAU from Lu Chan (yes, director of CITY OF LIFE AND DEATH)

Holy fucking shit. There's only one rule here: Let Timo COOK. In the meantime, watch THE NIGHT COMES FOR US and THE BIG FOUR on Netflix.

Watched JANPERSON THE MOVIE (Michio Konishi, 1993) and it might be the best thing I've seen in a while. The bowling pin noises at the end... 😭

Ah yes, new film from the directors of the last two BAD BOYS movies. Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah unchained. 2 world records, apparently: Biggest explosion in a movie, and most explosions in one take.

Watching an obscure Japanese experimental action film from the 80s, and there's a scene where the bank robber starts shooting at the hostages and the scene somehow turns into a dance sequence/music video for the single 'Deep Inside' from the J-rock band A.R.B.?? That bass line.😎

I love it when I can recognize an action director's work across borders. Of course the action in OUT LIVE (Kim Young-jun, 2000) was directed by Ma Yuk-sing... who worked on SWORDSMAN 2.

New Christmas Eve tradition: reposting this insane fight scene for anyone who might not already know it. A scene that probably exists because Yue Song saw the Burly Brawl from MATRIX RELOADED one day and thought, "I can do this without all the CGI!" IRON PROTECTOR (2016)

I am in awe of the creativity and hard work that went into this stop-motion samurai short film, HIDARI. The team hopes to turn it into a feature-length film. The kickstarter campaign has just begun: Full pilot film on YouTube:

North American friends! If you can, I strongly recommend you catch Soi Cheang's TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN in a cinema near you this weekend! A layered, rich, pulse-pounding Hong Kong blockbuster the likes of which we don't see often nowadays. One of the year's best!
