The opera takes place in Rome in the year 1800, when Jews were forced to live in Rome's ghetto and legally could not own property. It's one thing to stage operas that erase Europe's horrific history of antisemitism. It's another to use it for a contextless moment of "activism" for Palestine, with no mention of the destruction Hamas has caused to Israelis and Palestinians alike. The theater made the right call.

A woman overheard the couple sitting next to her speaking Hebrew. Instead of doing the logical thing (nothing) she decided to act like...this. I don't know what's worse, the obvious glee in her face as she shouts meaningless slogans at a couple for speaking a language she disapproves of, the nasty, smug look in her eyes as she knows she's succeeded in making strangers feel uncomfortable and unwanted, or her innocent child sobbing loudly for a mother who genuinely couldn't care less. The seatbelt sign is still on, and they're already in the aisle, pulling bags out of the overhead bin and calling their mother to say they've arrived. So I really don't know why this guy thought 170 of them would sit quietly while he tried to crash the plane. Every flight to Tel Aviv also has at least five passengers who are sure they could fly it better than the pilot. Today one of them finally got into the cockpit. Thank God everyone landed safely, and for once the clapping when we touched down was fully deserved. Now please, just this one time, stay in your seats until the plane comes to a complete stop. 😉
