The UN was right about it. Gaza’s hospitals were destroyed more than once by the Israeli army during the past two years. But about this specific building, people are blowing it out of proportion. It wasn’t destroyed and rebuilt. It had partial damage, and what they did here is basically some paint, some patch-ups, and a bit of interior fixing. This is how the building actually looked before:

Dear Jewish followers, Imagine that Pessach or Rosh Hashanah came; you take your wife and four children in the family car going to buy new clothes to celebrate the ocasion, you drive until you find an army car; the soldiers, ruthlessly and without any concern for who is inside, open their fire, killing the father, the mother, and their two children. This is what happened in Tammunn last night: the Israeli army opened their fire on a Palestinian family who were on their way to buy clothes for Eid al-Fitr and killed father Ali Khaled Bani Odeh, 37; his wife, Waad Othman Bani Odeh, 35; and their two children, Mohammed, 5, and Othman, 7 years old. The other two children, Mustafa, 8, and Khaled, 11, sustained shrapnel injuries to the head and face. When Palestinian Red Crescent crews arrived, Israeli forces blocked them from reaching the wounded inside the vehicle and forced them to leave the scene entirely before eventually allowing them to retrieve the four bodies. This is the West Bank in 2026.

I’m reposting this testimony I published two days ago on the hope that this woman hears at least a word of support from the Western pro-Palestine movement, much of which continues to turn a blind eye to the atrocities Hamas inflicts on Gaza’s residents. Hamas militants attacked a group of women from the Ahel family at Al-Shifa Hospital, beating them, firing shots near their feet, forcibly removing their headscarves and cloaks, stealing their phones, and arresting them along with their breastfeeding infants. After they were released, the family was denied medical treatment at the hospital by Hamas and even asked to pay for the bullets that had been fired at them. The audacity, barbarity, and cruelty of Hamas is never underestimated.

In one of Gaza's makeshift classrooms, an Islamist teacher appeared in a video guiding young children through a simulated funeral procession and making them repeat death-glorification statements, "Oh mother of the martyr, you're lucky, I wish my mother was in your place", "Mohamed take us with you to heaven". Gaza has suffered beyond comprehension; more than 20,000 children have been killed in less than 3 years, just this morning two children were killed along with their parents in Beit Lahya, northern Gaza, by an Israeli drone strike. These children desperately need safe spaces, psychological and post-trauma healing. Instead, informal, unmonitored classroom tents, funded through abroad donations, are being used by some to inject a "culture of death" into the minds of a deeply traumatized generation. Hamas has held this society hostage for over 18 years, embedding the glorification of terror and radical Islamism into the social fabric. Rebuilding Gaza needs rigorous educational reform, strict oversight of all learning spaces, and systematic de-radicalization along with the physical reconstruction of the Strip. Gaza deserves much better than this.

This is how Gaza was before the war, and this is how I want to remember it. It wasn't a concentration camp—those who term it one seldom spend more than 10 minutes researching the conditions of a concentration camp. It was full of life, full of joy, better than many Middle Eastern cities; on the other hand, it was full of corruption, thanks to the international organizations that kept sending humanitarian aid to the extent that the population became dependent on it, and the tyrant's job became easier as someone else took the role of feeding the people, allowing the regime to spend all its resources building tunnels, financing their bank accounts abroad, and focusing their efforts on preparing for the disaster we witnessed.
