You have awarded government elites 5000 units of free electricity, 2000 units of free gas, cars & fuel facility, people see that you are not touching these. In fact, in the budget you have increased the funding of Parliament by 30%, you have increased the budget of the PM House, and you are putting an ever heavier burden on the people. You have said you have increased [public sector] salaries, and were giving the example of Habib Bank Pvt. Limited by way of advocacy whose security guards get only 20,000 PKR a month. And the media workers have not had a pay raise in 10 years. And most of them are given cash salaries by the media houses. Has the FBR inquired into this, that why are media workers in Pakistan paid in cash? Tax deductions are made and then not deposited with the FBR. You just talk. The fallout from India’s miscalculation on Pakistan continues to roil India-US relations. India-Pakistan are military peer competitors even after decades of generous Western support for India. US finally realises India-China will never be peer competitors- the Indians just don’t have the strategic willpower that China or Pakistan have. Consequently, US tolerance for Indian strategic autonomy has eroded. India can bend the knee or get the boot.

7 years ago Brian Toon, a professor of physics who trained under Carl Sagan, had a talk about what a nuclear exchange between India & Pakistan would do. The scientific estimate was that aside from those killed in the nuclear war, 1-2 billion people all over the world would likely starve to death within months. The social and political consequences of such mass death on a global scale would be unfathomable. Since this assessment was made, India and Pakistan have improved the quality and authenticity of their nuclear weapons and added scores of warheads to their respective arsenals. And India is now ruled by a government that actually fired nuclear payload capable missiles into Pakistan during the recent crisis. Since Pakistan had no way of knowing what the payload was until the missiles were neutralised or exploded, it was within its rights to use nukes. Which would be the end not just of India and Pakistan but also of much of human civilisation. Fortunately, Pakistan chose to risk absorbing a possible Indian nuclear strike & it turned out the missiles were carrying conventional warheads. But this restraint might not materialise during another crisis. Every country in the world needs India & Pakistan to start getting along. Not out of some pacifist idealism but because of the real risk to their own survival.
