A Cleveland fan (Joe Oravec) asked Derek Jeter what he thought about playing in Cleveland, from Jacobs Field to the city’s nightlife and restaurants. Jeter said he never went out, but one memory has always stuck with him: hitting a home run on Opening Day at Jacobs Field and never getting the ball back because the fan who caught it kept it. Jeter had nothing but praise for Cleveland’s baseball atmosphere. He recalled the sold-out crowds, the great Cleveland teams of the late ‘90s and early 2000s, and said it was “a fun place to play” and that he always enjoyed coming to Cleveland. 🎥 Joe Oravec

Lake Erie's western basin is basically the Goldilocks zone for giant mayfly swarms. Strictly freshwater, shallow enough to warm up fast, and big enough to produce numbers that lead to accumulations of bugs that require shoveling. All these conditions coming together in one place is why this lake produces the most extreme mayfly hatches on the entire planet - up to 87.9 billion in a single night, thick enough to show up on weather radar. Lots of mayflies is a sign of a healthy lake. The were nearly wiped out from the 1950s through the 90s when the lake was polluted. Now they're back with a vengeance and clearly making up for lost time.

An out-of-towner planning an orchestra and theater trip for her daughter’s 12th birthday compared Cleveland with New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Chicago. After discovering Cleveland’s acclaimed orchestra, beautiful venues, theater options and lower prices, she admitted she had never considered visiting before but now believes the city may be a hidden gem. She factored in a four-day, three-night stay, flights for three people, orchestra and theater tickets, walkable hotels and the possibility of her mom joining by train. One of Sundance’s most talked-about horror movies was made right here in Cleveland. 🦄🪓 Buddy opens in theaters nationwide tomorrow on August 28 after building buzz for its bizarre mix of children’s television, dark comedy and psychological horror. Written and directed by Too Many Cooks creator Casper Kelly, the movie stars Cristin Milioti, Topher Grace and Keegan-Michael Key as the voice of Buddy. The movie was produced by Cleveland-based Low Spark Films and Tyler Davidson, and filmed almost entirely in Northeast Ohio, primarily at TRG Studios in Brooklyn.
