Amaravati is building a 7.8-km gravity canal for flood prevention and water management. Chennai already has the Cooum, Adyar and Buckingham Canal a natural water network that should be one of the city's biggest assets. Instead, we've allowed them to become synonymous with sewage, garbage, encroachments and flooding. Why are we still thinking of waterways as beautification projects instead of critical urban infrastructure? Restore the rivers. Reconnect the lakes and canals. Separate sewage from stormwater. Protect wetlands. Use gravity wherever possible and pumps where necessary. Chennai needs to make its existing water network actually work.

Again, I'm saying this: many Tamilians who boast about Chennai and claim its current growth is sufficient have probably never set foot in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, or Noida. Just look at Hyderabad. Apart from Mumbai, no Indian city comes close to Hyderabad in terms of the scale of modern construction and skyline development. Our cities need a complete overhaul of FSI and FAR regulations, along with liquor policy reforms to unlock their full potential. At the same time, the government should stop using prime urban land for Slum Rehabilitation Board housing, like it did along Chennai's Loop Road. Such valuable land should be planned and utilized far more efficiently.

Since our CM has confirmed that the proposal will be developed on an MMLP-type model, and with Trichy Airport also set to be privatised, Trichy could be heading towards a much bigger logistics transformation. Look at Duisburg, Zaragoza, and Memphis inland logistics hubs that transformed their strategic locations into major freight and industrial ecosystems. With Trichy also being landlocked and having a similar strategic geography, Trichy can do the same also, Reviving Cuddalore Port and connecting it to this inland logistics network could create a powerful Trichy–Cuddalore freight corridor, linking Central and Western TN directly to the coast. This could be the beginning of Trichy becoming Tamil Nadu’s inland logistics hub.
