Look how beautiful Hyderabad is! At night, the whole city looks like a cyberpunk game with the rain and thunder. Wish Chennai had this vibe.

This is Gandikota, Andhra Pradesh straight out of Avatar’s Pandora. To all Tamilians: this place has a Tamil connection. It was ruled by the Renati Cholas, a dynasty that claimed descent from our great Tamil Chola king, Karikala.

This is why I don’t trust Indian drone videos. Infrajeets do propaganda by showing 2–3 glass buildings and claiming India is developing. Look at Addis Ababa in Africa, The day Indian cities look like this, we can all agree this country is actually developing.

Note: When the government is asked why it scrapped Parandur, one of the most common responses, apart from “DMK bought land,” is that building a new airport at Parandur would be dangerous because it could make Chennai flood. But they conveniently avoid the engineering part the fact that many of these risks can potentially be mitigated through proper engineering. To no one's surprise, social media yesterday was flooded with these two narratives, convincing people that anyone supporting the airport must be a DMK supporter or a real-estate lobbyist, while the opposition is apparently hopeless here. Look at Navi Mumbai Airport, which opened this year. An entire hill was levelled, swampy land was reclaimed using the debris, and the Ulwe River was diverted to make the project possible,Then why can’t the same engineering solutions be applied in Parandur? 📸: Dravidian Insights

Amaravati is building a 7.8-km gravity canal for flood prevention and water management. Chennai already has the Cooum, Adyar and Buckingham Canal a natural water network that should be one of the city's biggest assets. Instead, we've allowed them to become synonymous with sewage, garbage, encroachments and flooding. Why are we still thinking of waterways as beautification projects instead of critical urban infrastructure? Restore the rivers. Reconnect the lakes and canals. Separate sewage from stormwater. Protect wetlands. Use gravity wherever possible and pumps where necessary. Chennai needs to make its existing water network actually work.
