“Only the simple scales: We need to make our platform as manufacturable as deployable as possible to get out to the true scale we want.” At our Investor Day, Chris Ballance, President, Quantum Computing shared this insight as he described the significance of IonQ Superion 256. Whereas quantum computing has typically controlled natural qubits with lasers, which works well in labs, scaling to hundreds, thousands, and millions of qubits requires a different approach. Instead of complex external laser setups, we’ve integrated electronic qubit control directly into the semiconductor chip. We already have ion qubits in our first prototype systems, with customer site deployments targeted for early 2027. Scale isn't just about build quality—it’s about manufacturability. At our Investor Day, CEO Niccolo de Masi shared a major milestone that crystalizes the speed at which the quantum ecosystem is accelerating. We debuted our 256 physical qubit system: IonQ Superion 256. The Superion line is the beginning of the earliest stages of the revolution in quantum computing.
