China is “not a big fan” of the Islamic Republic and would likely not stand in the way of US or Israeli efforts to topple it, provided they did not clearly violate international norms, Tong Zhao, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, told Iran International’s Kambiz Tavana. Zhao said Beijing viewed Iran’s clerical system with distaste, comparing its wariness to China’s difficult dealings with North Korea. He said China did not strongly oppose US and Israeli strikes during the 2026 war, though it condemned the targeting of Iran’s supreme leader as a breach of international law.

Across Iran, a new kind of video is circulating. People film themselves holding up what they have just bought, name the price, and then dance. Four eggs and one sausage, 500,000 tomans. A soda and a packet of crisps, 350,000. Six eggs and a tin of tuna. Three small bags of shopping for 7.5 million tomans, close to half a month at the minimum wage. Each says why they are smiling. "I am very happy," one man says, "because if I am not, they will execute me." Others say they would otherwise be called rioters, traitors, mercenaries or Mossad agents. Iranian authorities routinely accuse those who speak about the country's economic conditions of "painting things black," and have arrested and prosecuted people on such charges.

Former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami criticized the Islamic Republic’s involvement in the Palestinian issue, saying Iran had “no right to interfere” and that it was for the Palestinian people themselves to determine their course. Khatami said Israel was established “through occupation and force,” adding that “occupation is not a source of legitimacy.” He said Iran could morally support people seeking freedom but rejected putting itself in their place to confront “a powerful force” when they could ultimately suffer greatly and choose a different path.

Exiled Prince Reza Pahlavi called Tuesday on Iranians seeking political change to join his “National Cooperation Campaign to Save Iran,” while urging members of the military, police and security forces to side with the public. “Join the nation and stand with the people when Iran is liberated, and you will be granted safe conduct,” Pahlavi said in a video message posted on X. “But if you continue to stand with the repressors and participate in crimes against the people, you will be held accountable before the law and justice.” Pahlavi called on Iranians from all walks of life who want a “free and prosperous” future for the country to contact his team directly through the Telegram bot BarkhizIranBot and join the campaign. In one video, security forces were filmed handing guns to children who had left school. "They have brought in children under the age of 10 who have just finished school and are teaching them how to assemble and disassemble a weapon," an onlooker filming the scene said. "They've put a Kalashnikov in front of the child... they're preparing their minds for killing from an early age. Look how excited the child is — he's not even eight years old."

A police officer in Savojbolagh, Alborz province, held a one-month temporary marriage with a woman on the night of the ceasefire announcement on Tuesday, freshly surfaced video showed. The will of Iran’s slain Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was destroyed in a fire at his residence, a member of the Islamic Republic’s Assembly of Experts has said. Saeed Solh-Mirzaei said the residence burned from 9:30am until sunset and took firefighters seven to eight hours to extinguish, with no one able to get near the building. He said the will had been kept there, and that a close associate told him the computer holding a scanned copy was also destroyed. Because the will had to be held in a highly secure location, no further copies were made, Solh-Mirzaei said, adding that Khamenei had been revising it when it was lost.
