ACCUSED COP KILLER SPOTTED IN NORTH CAROLINA Authorities report that accused cop killer Michael Puckett was seen this morning in the Mount Airy area of North Carolina, approximately 45 minutes north of Iredell County. According to law enforcement, Puckett was last seen driving a maroon Chevrolet Tahoe. He is considered armed and extremely dangerous. Do not approach him under any circumstances. If you see Puckett or know of his whereabouts, immediately call 911 and provide authorities with as much information as possible. Law enforcement agencies across the region continue their search for Puckett following the fatal shooting of Carroll County Sheriff's Deputy Logan Utt and the wounding of another deputy Friday night in Carroll County, Virginia. High-Speed Pursuit Ends Predictably: Last night, Mooresville Police attempted to stop a vehicle on Interstate 77 for traveling at a high rate of speed. Rather than complying, 20-year-old Anthony Josue Velasquez Alonzo chose to flee in his sports car—apparently unaware that a Police Interceptor Ford Explorer is more than capable of keeping up, especially when equipped with chase mode, a feature exclusive to interceptor models. The pursuit began on I-77 in Mooresville then continued into Statesville on Highway 70 and then into Rowan County, where the suspect made the bad strategic decision to turn onto a residential street that ended in a dead end. Officers conducted a felony stop, drawing their weapons, and quickly took the suspect into custody without further incident. He is now being held at the Iredell County Jail, where he has ample time to reflect on the series of decisions that led him there. Enjoy that bologna! Audio of the chase is below. Mooresville, NC — On Thursday, January 29, Firewire subscribers were alerted to an active police incident following a 911 call reporting indecent exposure at the Nordstrom Rack parking lot in Mooresville. According to authorities, a female caller reported a man engaging in inappropriate behavior inside a vehicle, prompting an indecent exposure call. Officers with the Mooresville Police Department arrived quickly, at which point the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle. A brief vehicle pursuit followed along Williamson Road. The suspect attempted to turn onto Highway 150, where he lost control and crashed into a light pole. Officers drew their weapons, ordered the suspect to the ground, and took him into custody without further incident. The suspect was identified as Matthew Elijah Newell, 24, of Sherrills Ford. He was transported to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center for evaluation, released a short time later, and then transported to the Iredell County Detention Center. Newell has been charged with indecent exposure, fleeing to elude arrest, and multiple traffic-related offenses. He is currently being held at the Iredell County Detention Center under no bond. Press Conference For Missing 14 Year Old In Statesville: Sheriff Campbell, alongside the FBI, provided an update today regarding the disappearance of 14-year-old Gideon Ferguson, who was safely located earlier today. Gideon was found after he walked back into the search area and sat in the yard of a nearby residence. The homeowner noticed him and immediately dialed 911. Deputies responded and quickly confirmed the juvenile was the missing 14-year-old who had been reported missing for the past three days. Sheriff Campbell stated that the area where Gideon was located had been heavily searched during the investigation. He emphasized that the family who found the boy is in no way involved in his disappearance. Sheriff Campbell expressed his sincere gratitude to all agencies and personnel involved in the search efforts, including multiple sheriff’s offices from across the state, Iredell County Rescue, Iredell Search and Rescue, and numerous fire departments that assisted throughout the operation. Sheriff Campbell also expressed his appreciation to the local businesses that stepped up to support first responders by providing food, water, and other essential supplies throughout the search efforts. He specifically thanked Sheetz, Run In Food, and other local businesses for their generosity.
