I repeat and reiterate: Israel does not seek war. But we have the right and the duty to defend our people. Here’s just an example of the threat we face. This IDF video shows how Hezbollah stores and launches missiles in civilian areas and homes. Thousands and thousands of long range rockets are kept in houses, living rooms, bedrooms, and kitchens, and then launched with the sole intention of killing our people. Would you accept this in your or your neighbor’s home? What nation would accept its citizens living under such a threat from its neighbors?

I have just landed in Panama City to begin a historic official visit to Panama and Costa Rica. This is the first-ever visit by an Israeli President to Panama, a nation that is a true friend and partner of the State of Israel. I look forward to meeting with my friend President José Raúl Mulino as we work to strengthen the deep and enduring ties between our nations. I also thank my friend Foreign Minister Javier Martínez-Acha Vásquez for the warm welcome here this morning. In both Panama and Costa Rica, I will meet with the leadership and members of the local Jewish communities, which are a special bridge between our nations and peoples. This important visit demonstrates the renewed momentum in Israel’s ties with countries across Latin America to the benefit of both our regions.

اجتمعنا أمس، بالتزامن مع مرور عامين على مأساة مجدل شمس، التي فقدنا فيها 12 طفلاً في هجوم إرهابي وحشي شنه حزب الله، مع قيادات الطائفة الدرزية، وعلى رأسهم الشيخ موفق طريف، لإطلاق برنامج “دورنا” للمرة الأولى، وهو برنامج وطني لإعداد القيادات من أبناء الطائفة الدرزية في إسرائيل. تُعدّ الطائفة الدرزية جزءاً لا يتجزأ من المجتمع الإسرائيلي، وإسهامها في تعزيز صمود دولة إسرائيل وبناء مستقبلها إسهام كبير وعظيم. ومن خلال برنامج “دورنا”، سنعمل على تمكين القيادة الدرزية، وتزويد القيادات بالأدوات اللازمة للتفكير الريادي والمبتكر، وتوسيع نطاق تأثيرها في مختلف مجالات الحياة. نتوجه بالشكر إلى الجهات المبادِرة لهذا البرنامج: صندوق طايب، ووزارة النقب والجليل والحصانة الوطنية، ومنتدى رؤساء السلطات المحلية الدرزية ، وجمعية معسيه، وجميع الشركاء الذين يساهمون في إنجاح هذه المبادرة المهمة.
