When I was younger and less wise, I used to pray to Allah ﷻ to give all my ḥayāh to my parents and take me before them. Later, I realized that it was a selfish prayer. I prayed that way because I couldn’t imagine enduring the pain of losing my parents. This unwise mindset of younger me came from a weak imaan in the existence of the akhirah. Now, I see the bigger picture. I have a glorious purpose to fulfill as a Muslim man. If Allah ﷻ wills that I outlive my parents, I must endure and continue my journey to fulfill the purpose of my life. Now, I pray to Allah ﷻ to guide my parents, to change their perspective on what true success is, and grant them a long life to let them witness their son achieve that true success.
