I’ve been disappointed with how Jerrod Carmichael has handled his platform since coming out. I’ve been a huge fan of his in the past and I loved The Carmichael Show. He said something in this interview though that stuck out to me. He’s used to being “the smartest guy in the room” but the thing that’s propelled his comedy is also his problem. We don’t need any extra context to “understand the joke”. The joke didn’t land because it’s not funny. Race play isn’t funny. I don’t think he gets what peoples actual problem is. Or maybe he’s just know focused on appeasing to the white gaze and the white gays.

Nobody should have to go through what Carlos Collins went through in the last moments of his life. I will never understand people to a break up or rejection with gross acts of violence. We need to start taking mental health in this country a lot more seriously. Carlos deserves to be protected and unfortunately he was failed by system that is broken. To be shot several times and be hit in the head with an axe is inhumane. Praying that justice is served. Also… Let’s stop glorifying domestic violence. I see it on this app daily from some of your “favorite couples”. There’s nothing sexy or attractive about abuse. Because the end result is often this.

This really saddens me. I’ve been in the place where I tried to “pray away the gay”. I’ve been in a place where I would starve myself to “deny my flesh” in order to be, “delivered.” I wasted a lot of time not truly loving myself which prevented me from properly loving others in a healthy way. I feel like he would have the family he desires if he decided to be with who he desires. I didn’t see joy in this clip. I saw regret and hopelessness. I’ve been there and it’s a tough place to be.
