Sometimes my heart aches for African countries. Whether you like it or not, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula is telling the truth—not just about #Ethiopia, but about the entire African continent. While the rest of the world continues to progress and develop, many African countries remain trapped in cycles of changing governments through violence, preventing people from focusing on development and other areas that truly transform a nation. Africa will never catch up with the rest of the world as long as war and violence continue to be seen as solutions to every problem. The cycle will continue without end. While people are focused on fighting for political leadership, the continent’s resources are exploited by others, and conflicts and humanitarian crises create opportunities for organizations that profit from instability. Africans should wake up.

These nomadic pastoralists, also known as the Falata, were crossing the Openo Bridge today to return to their country. During the dry season, they travel to #Gambella for grazing. When the rainy season begins, they return to their country. As you can see, they have thousands of livestock. Should the government start collecting taxes?

With this mentality, they will destroy the country even more than what it is now. It’s funny how he can even compare #Nigeria with #Ethiopia. Come on, their country has over 300 different ethnic groups and yet they live more peacefully than Ethiopia with only 83 ethnic groups. Look at their economy and living standards. Fix your brain first before you can talk about other Africans and calling them “MONKEYS.”

I agree with Getachew K Reda on this matter. Getting access to the Red Sea is not just a political gamble for the current gov’t of #Ethiopia or any future leadership—it is a must for Ethiopians. This can be done in a peaceful manner that would benefit both countries in a win-win situation. Ethiopia can’t continue to be chocked up and losing billions annually just for a mistake made by an unelected body. 🇪🇹 🤝 🇪🇷 🕊️

It is encouraging to see the collaboration of young #Ethiopians and #Eritreans at Harvard and MIT in organizing such events. Keep up this unity and pay no attention to the outdated and mentally incapacitated politicians and their divisive political ideologies.

Thank you, Rev. Dr. Tolesa Gudina, for standing up for the truth! As someone who grew up in Mekane Yesus and is still a member, I believe in telling the truth as it is, without sugarcoating it. The Oromo culture should be respected just like any other culture in Ethiopia. But my Christian Oromo brothers and sisters need to put their Christian faith first over other religious traditions that don’t intertwine with the Christian beliefs.

Thank you sister Weyni, you put it together so well! I wrote about the slavery under Imperial Ethiopia in Chapter 3 of Anywaa: The Luo of Western Ethiopia. This issue is poorly addressed by the Ethiopian scholars and historians. The persisting colorism, condescension, and discrimination in Ethiopia is just the tip of iceberg. It needs to be addressed.
