These nomadic pastoralists, also known as the Falata, were crossing the Openo Bridge today to return to their country. During the dry season, they travel to #Gambella for grazing. When the rainy season begins, they return to their country. As you can see, they have thousands of livestock. Should the government start collecting taxes?

What this sister from the #Hamer is saying is just a pure truth about #Ethiopia! Keep it up sister, the colorism and racism in this country against dark-skinned people has to be exposed. It’s funny how it triggers their nerves and try to downplay the issue whenever it’s raised.

Thousands of South Sudanese Nuer are currently crossing the border to fight the Anywaa people in #Ethiopia. They know that they have been given a green light by the current government of Ethiopia. An indirect genocide on the Anywaa indigenous in Ethiopia! The #GoE has the information and they’re aware of what’s happening: it’s NOT a conflict between two ethnic groups. The #IC must be involved before this ethnic cleansing takes place. President Donald J. With this mentality, they will destroy the country even more than what it is now. It’s funny how he can even compare #Nigeria with #Ethiopia. Come on, their country has over 300 different ethnic groups and yet they live more peacefully than Ethiopia with only 83 ethnic groups. Look at their economy and living standards. Fix your brain first before you can talk about other Africans and calling them “MONKEYS.”

I agree with Getachew K Reda on this matter. Getting access to the Red Sea is not just a political gamble for the current gov’t of #Ethiopia or any future leadership—it is a must for Ethiopians. This can be done in a peaceful manner that would benefit both countries in a win-win situation. Ethiopia can’t continue to be chocked up and losing billions annually just for a mistake made by an unelected body. 🇪🇹 🤝 🇪🇷 🕊️

Thank you, Rev. Dr. Tolesa Gudina, for standing up for the truth! As someone who grew up in Mekane Yesus and is still a member, I believe in telling the truth as it is, without sugarcoating it. The Oromo culture should be respected just like any other culture in Ethiopia. But my Christian Oromo brothers and sisters need to put their Christian faith first over other religious traditions that don’t intertwine with the Christian beliefs.

Listening to Dr. Desalegn Chane’s speech and question to the PM Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali 🇪🇹 was a sign of big change in the political arena in #Ethiopia. I admire his courage, boldness, and lack of hesitation to speak out freely. That’s the Ethiopia that we want. We want a democracy where our leaders (leading and opposition parties) can criticize, debate, offer solutions, and move forward without fear of death or imprisonment. What I saw here is a big change compared to what it was during the #TPLF government. The response from Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali 🇪🇹 was the very same thing that Dr. Desalegn was saying but from the other side of the table: both blaming each side! This shows that if we really want peace in our country, we have to start with ourselves and our contributions to the existing problems before blaming others. Whether it’s the leading government, #Fano, #OLF/A, #TDF, or other armed forces, you have a big contribution to the existing suffering of the civilians in the #Amhara, #Tigray, and #Oromiya region. That’s just the ugly truth and we all know it! The external forces are just adding to the existing problems. If you pick up a weapon to kill, you can’t play holy at the end! Whoever that you’re killing in the other uniform is also a human being. Frankly, no government can just decide to kill its citizens for fun, nor is there opposition that starts for no reason! For the sake of our people and the country, we need to learn that peaceful dialogue is just as powerful as armed struggle but without damage to the properties or loss of lives. Peaceful dialogue is more effective and it leads to a lasting solution. But, armed struggle, even if it becomes successful, can only lead to more conflict in the long run. This cycle of unending conflicts is not what Ethiopians need in this 21th century! We don’t want to be left behind busy with senseless conflicts in this rapid changing world.

Thank you sister Weyni, you put it together so well! I wrote about the slavery under Imperial Ethiopia in Chapter 3 of Anywaa: The Luo of Western Ethiopia. This issue is poorly addressed by the Ethiopian scholars and historians. The persisting colorism, condescension, and discrimination in Ethiopia is just the tip of iceberg. It needs to be addressed. Very bright young men with a whole future ahead of them! Instead of building their careers at this very young age, they are fighting their fellow Ethiopians in a nonsense and an unnecessary war. What roles can the diasporas play to save such young souls in our country without adding gasoline to the existing fire?
