Trump calling reporters fat or waxing lyrical about Jon Husted’s butt would be more tolerable for people if the economy was doing well, but it just isn’t. Americans have less money in their pockets because of Trump’s decisions and they’re fed up. The only Republican who seems to be living in reality is Ted Cruz who’s out there talking about the fact that the GOP could lose Texas and that Kansas is a tie.

I can think of no dumber discourse than the Cheesecake Factory discourse. Obama lives rent free in Trump’s head. Always has. Always will. Besides this being the ‘gayest midterms’ ever (according to Jesse), Trump saying ‘I don’t give a damn. We’re making a freaking fortune’ when he’s stock trading more in one day than Nancy Pelosi did in 12 years, is what voters are hearing from the president. He’s rubbing our faces in it.

The GOP wants you to think of Elon Musk as some sort of victim who just wants to give us flying cars, but the truth tells a very different story. He fired the people who were investigating him and his companies through DOGE and now it’s reported by the WSJ that he gave the order to degrade the speed on Ukraine’s Starlink. That deserves investigation and Democrats should absolutely promise that and deliver.

Democrats aren’t cocky - we are bedwetting like usual. But we have reason to feel good judging by the desperate moves of Republicans. Take the sick and disgusting Vivek Ramaswamy ad targeting Amy Acton using her estranged mother. Or Ken Paxton weaving crazy lies about Talarico policy because his lines of attack aren’t working. They’re desperate.

Pundits may be talking about “turning Texas blue” but James Talarico isn’t. He just wants to turn it purple. What has one party rule gotten Texans? Wages below the national average. Double the uninsured rate. Record farm bankruptcies. They’re ready for a more purple change.

Closing message from Republicans being straight up Islamophobia is a terrible choice. Calling Abdul Mohammed, saying he’s Muslim brotherhood, saying he may have assimilated but so was the Fort Hood shooter is disgusting stuff. And Jews - even ones who aren’t supporting him - aren’t interested in that crap.

Democrats are closing on message. El-Sayed: spend our dollars here not dropping bombs. Ossoff: Trump and his cronies are getting rich as your life gets tougher. Cooper: Americans need healthcare. On the Republican side, you’ve got live streaming a public execution, bribing Americans to vote for Republicans, and Ken Paxton still won’t debate Talarico. Democrats are closing strong!

I know the ‘far left’ takeover of the Democratic party is popular to harp on, but look at these high performing candidates running pitch perfect campaigns. Democrats are surging across the country because folks like Jon Ossoff, Roy Cooper, Rob Sand (and many others) are talking about the things American voters are concerned about: higher costs, your healthcare and a corrupt government that works for itself.

You know what doesn’t matter? What Kamala Harris said on a campaign stop. You know what does? Watching Republicans pull money from competitive races in order to protect what should be easy wins and seeing Trump be forced to go to deep-red territory. Watching the president and vice president defend Vivek’s disgusting ad. A Paxton mega-donor cutting a video to support Talarico because he’s actually the candidate that has Texas values. That’s the stuff that tells you something about the midterms.

Karoline Leavitt is getting glowing reviews of her performance as press secretary when she dodged, attacked, and obfuscated for the most part. A few examples of the lies we heard: claiming the US spent $50M on condoms for Gaza, calling the Epstein files a 'hoax,' denying war plans were shared with Jeffrey Goldberg over Signal, branding Abrego Garcia a gang member with zero evidence, and insisting America is more affordable under Trump. That's not a press secretary doing her job well. That's demeaning the press and calling the public insane for noticing the gaslighting.

If the GOP’s closer is Trump and he has to be in Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas where he can only muster that Ken Paxton is a pain in the ass, it may be time to get a new closer. Republicans pulling ad dollars out of North Carolina and Georgia to feed Kansas is all you need to know.

New polling should terrify Republicans: Jon Ossoff (Georgia) + 13 Roy Cooper (North Carolina) +9 Josh Turek (Iowa) +4 Sherrod Brown (Ohio) +8 James Talarico (TX) +3 Even Greg Abbott is only +1 GOP says we’re a bunch of lunatic socialists. Every one of them is running as a centrist Democrat on addressing the cost of living, healthcare, and cleaning up corruption. If that's the environment, no Republican should feel safe right now.

I’m out here at the State Fair, and well, it is as empty as everyone says. It’s also very hot! Now is a great time to mention that my new book, I Disagree, is coming out soon, and it talks all about how to find common ground with folks who you may not agree with/who think it’s okay Donald Trump turned our 250th into her personal party. Pre-order it now:

Republicans can mock the No Kings protests all the want, but the reality is it just grew from 6 million to 8 million people in a few months. 3,300 rallies in all 50 states, many in suburbs and small towns. Meanwhile, Republicans in Congress see the writing on the wall. A record 36 are retiring early. Donald Trump is sitting around 40% approval at best, closer to the low 30s by some measures. When a president is under 50%, their party historically loses an average of 34 seats in Congress. Democrats only need a handful of seats. The energy is real and it is growing.

Jesse is usually a better messenger than what the White House parades out there, but not tonight. Too rich to know that arguing the war in Iran worked out great because the oil companies made a lot of money is exactly the opposite of what the average American needs to hear!

Republicans are lying to the American people when they say the SAVE Act is a voter ID law—it’s a proof-of-citizenship requirement that would make voting harder, if not impossible, for a lot of people. Passports are expensive, documents don’t always match, and the process can be a mess (been there). We should be making voting easier, not adding more hurdles. Democrats can own this by proposing their own bill that accepts a range of IDs, and includes automatic voter registration and Election Day as a national holiday for starters.

Texas is still red, but running a campaign on James Talarico shares a bank account with his mom, is maybe a vegan, is maybe a little bit gay but also has a hot Latina girlfriend, isn’t really a winning message. Especially when Paxton is so flawed and gave a sweetheart deal to an admitted child molester. Cost of living. Healthcare. That’s what persuadable voters want to hear about.
