Hustings before and after.. One of the most unpleasant experiences I’ve had in public life. My opponent lied throughout. He was then challenged on his claim to have served “in combat” by an 11 tour Veteran, which he could not stand up. I cannot believe I am standing against a real life Walter Mitty in Plymouth. If there is one place you don’t want to lie about your military service, it is this City. Veterans in the room - including one who was sunk in the Falklands - erupted and started to walk out. The hustings was ended. I respect everyone’s service. Anyone who knows anything about war knows it is all about luck - where you are deployed and when. But the number 1 rule is that you must never lie about it. It’s offensive to those who died. I cannot believe this individual is trying to propagate such a fraud on the people in Plymouth. It’s not about service; it’s about character and integrity. Mind blown.

I may be a ‘silly sod’ or a ‘twit’ - both of those are valid. But I also don’t think voters really want people who’ve spent more time at university than in a job, who get dropped in to a constituency, inserted with a party chip and parrot party lines. Glad to have stoked debate.

This is shocking. Starmer this morning on a phone-in admitting he’s happy to see veterans in their 70’s and 80’s go to court for their service in Northern Ireland to appease Sinn Fein. You can wheel out as many vets as you like. If your values are this skewed, you need help.

The Labour Candidate in Plymouth has now changed his tune to say the article which he promoted for ten months is ‘misreporting’ his service. Veterans at the hustings smelt a rat; they were right. Bored of it. Lots of other things to campaign on. In Southway today- come and chat.

I try not to wade in too much, but seeing as the House of Commons has just spent an hour misrepresenting my 2023 Legacy Act to protect Northern Ireland Veterans from endless prosecutions, I figured I should. Deeply dishonest stuff from Benn, and knowingly misleading statements from Labour front-benchers about the ECHR compliance of the Act - it was signed off by the then Attorney General who was a complete stickler for it. It wasn’t perfect, but it achieved its aims - the best of a bad set of options, and the last chance for families to find out what happened to their loved ones. Having no new evidence relies on prosecutors simply making different decisions. Public Prosecutors like Barra McGrory, who once represented Gerry Adams and Martin McGuiness. Or the current Attorney General - the Country’s highest law officer, who represented Gerry Adams. Appointed by Keir Starmer who was best mates with Phil Shiner, who did lawfare to my generation of veterans in Iraq and who now has a fraud conviction, after I reported him to the NCA. It’s pretty simple. This Labour Government have literally switched sides. Thats all. They and their ‘veterans’ should just own it.

Obviously the haters are upset.. they don’t like being called out for their nonsense. The real world is very different. Parents want their kids to go to good schools more than they want to hear aimless policies from people who don’t actually believe in anything at all.

I’m not interested in the activists and the haters. I’m in this for the good normal folk in Plymouth who want someone to put them first and stand up for them. Please go out and vote tomorrow. I love the people of this City and I want to stand up for them against the Labour tide.

Always follow your instincts. Labour Party HQ have tonight confirmed Fred Thomas’s service was misreported by the Guardian. IF this is the Guardians fault, or Fred’s fault for not correcting it for almost a year - and promoting the article on his website - I leave up to you.

Another day fighting like hell in Plymouth. Poll out overnight. Totally understand why people are thinking Reform, you won’t find me slating them. Their candidate here is on holiday - he cares that much, and all he will give you is another useless local Labour MP. Think about it

I know this will make me even more unpopular, and no-one can gloss over the difficulties in the Police Service at the moment. But it’s childish to tar them all with the same brush. We are incredibly lucky with the vast majority of UK Police who risk personal danger every day.
