Alone in the house today. Such a different atmosphere to when it’s bustling with visitors (which is lovely in a different way). There’s a real depth to the stillness this evening - a completeness - like a mind in a state of deep meditation.

I came across this ruin on the moors. A hushed and beautiful place and somehow poignant to see the stones weep ferns and the crooked beam shouldering the weight of birdsong and cold winds.

We’ve been trying to create new nesting sites for our swallows. So we made this box & put a pot swallow nest inside (on the right). But the swallows don’t like the decor & have decided to build their own nest (on the left!) But how fab, at least they’re using the box!

Another magical encounter with an extraordinary bird today. This beautiful little goldcrest came to say hello. It’s Europe’s smallest bird weighing a little less than a 20p coin and yet each year it manages to cross the North Sea. It may be small but it has the heart of a lion!

A circlage of housemartins, a richness, a gulp, a flight, a swoop. There are literally hundreds of them gathering at Gwydir today, as they bond (from local nesting sites) & move towards becoming a super-flock, preparing for the long journey ahead. What an honour to see this today

Difficult to film this because the swallows move so fast, but cutting the lawn just now, they came swooping and skimming & escorted the mower, up & down. I feel weirdly close to these birds (so many of them nest around the house) and to see them move like this is a joy to behold.
