You can spot his stickers on commercial vehicles, tricycles, buses, cars, etc., and his images on calendars, fabrics, and more. Back then, many young Nigerians thought he was Prophet Muhammad. Allow me to introduce you to the late Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse, also known as Baye Niass. He was a Senegalese Islamic scholar and a major leader of the Tijaniyya Sufi order in West Africa. His branch of the Tijaniyya, associated with the Fayda, attracted millions of followers across West Africa and continues to have a large following today. His followers display his pictures everywhere, sing his praises, and keep his image prominently around them. There are also stories among his followers of miraculous appearances of Sheikh Niasse, including claims that his image has manifested on walls or unexpectedly appeared in the sky. Lambalillah! 🙏🏽
