An inmate escaped his jail cell using a pencil to manipulate the door’s locking mechanism at a jail in Chesterfield, South Carolina, according to officials. Charles Alexander Dieterich then made his way through the kitchen and out an unlocked door before climbing a fence topped with barbed wire. He suffered cuts during the escape. Deputies tracked Dieterich down about 30 minutes later and took him back into custody. He was treated at a hospital for his injuries before being returned to jail.
