Afghanistan has been a screwed-up country for the past 45 years. Mohammad Qasim Fahim, a former warlord from Norther Alliance, is the symbol of the corruption and warlordism that eventually caused the collapse of the fragile republic. Mr. Fahim hit the jackpot when 9/11 happened. CIA agents brought dollars in suitcases to purchase him while he was up for auction. Later millions of more dollars flooded the country, and he had the entire country in his back pocket. He was the most influential figure and by far more powerful than President Karzai himself. Karzai was forced to award him the Marshal title for his warlordism services. During the newly created republic in Afghanistan, he and his allies were so powerful that they could do anything they wanted without anyone in the country challenging them. Basically, he was a govt within the govt. He stole government lands in Kabul's prime area of Shirpoor and people's private property belonging to Afghan Hindus and distributed them as gifts & war spoils among his gang. The story didn't end there. When he expired, his dead corpse stole the most scenic govt land to accommodate his grave. This republic, which lasted 20 years, was founded on corruption, lawlessness, and disregard for national interests. Therefore, the republic was doomed to fail at its inception. End of story!
