State TV in Iran is broadcasting the idea that there should be a fatwa calling for the assassination of U.S. President Donald Trump in response to the elimination of Ali Khamenei, the late supreme leader. The channel—IRIB Ofogh—is affiliated with the IRGC’s Baqiatallah HQ.

According to the Iranian regime’s then-foreign minister Javad Zarif, Princeton’s Mousavian still operates as a de facto regime official. In this 2016 interview, Zarif says Mousavian is “completely tied to [Iran’s] regime … and is currently working hard for it.” #FireMousavian

Targeting senior IRGC commanders is not an attack on Iran or its people. Rather, it is targeting those who have occupied, terrorised, and looted the great Iranian nation. It is targeting those responsible for the murders of Mahsa Amini, Nika Shakarami, and other heroic Iranians.

A dangerous new status quo is emerging: the IRGC appears to believe it can strike Israel, avoid blame, and use such attacks as a means to widen tensions between Trump and Netanyahu. That perception increases the risk of miscalculation and recklessness.
