At Downing Street last night, I was pleased to have the opportunity to say thank you to Keir Starmer and his team for his and their service to our country and The Labour Party. A lot has been achieved in his period in office and he has restored the values of decency and integrity to public life. He leaves Britain in a stronger position than he found it, and Labour as a serious party of government again. I was particularly struck by his determination to do everything he can to constructively support his successor. Country first and with enormous good grace to boot. Thank you.

I’ve been to Downing Street on multiple occasions in the past few weeks. I am struck by how much warm feeling there is towards Keir Starmer as he prepares to leave office. This is a Prime Minister who will be remembered as someone who restored stability to the UK and made our international allies feel they could rely on Britain once again.
