This is exactly what the North East is about. 💜 It was an honour to march with the fabulous Dane Kelly Holmes. And my word what a sound track Proud Northern Voices. 🏳️🌈

On Saturday I told Andy Burnham we need more powers taken out of Whitehall and given to the region to help young people get good jobs. On Monday the next PM said that’s exactly what we’ll get. I promised we’d extend Tyne and Wear Metro to Washington. Today we’ve committed £8.6m to complete the business case to deliver exactly that. This is a long term project but we’re getting started. I’ll build the infrastructure of opportunity across our North East.

☀️ County Durham solar panels to be sent to Japan ☀️ This brilliant partnership between PowerRoll and 東京ガス グループ【公式】 is North East innovation going global! We met with Tokyo Gas with Power Roll in Japan last year. I'm delighted led to this agreement - so Power Roll can grow to become a global exporter. I was in Sunderland, so it had to be a pink slice! I loved meeting Charlie at Müller’s Bakery, and hearing about how he has taken on the mantle of this amazing family bakery from his Nana and Grandad who started the business way back in the 60’s. My Pink Slice from Müller’s was unbelievably good. Tell me in the comments, what’s your favourite North East sweet treat and what are you ordering on match day?

Tyne Bridge cash secured! We’d never let the restoration of our iconic Tyne Bridge go unfinished. Now, thanks to the £1.85bn transport settlement we secured it’s funded! That means our beautiful bridge will be back to its former glory in time for its centenary in 2028!

Scrapping the two child cap was a major victory in our fight to end child poverty in the North East. And this week it's finally been lifted. It's a huge moment for our region changing the lives of nearly 50,000 kids. And it’s going to make our £30m child poverty action plan even more impactful - whether that’s expanding baby box deliveries to more activities for teens to grants for pregnant mams

New ticket barriers are now live at Regent Centre Tyne and Wear Metro station! I promised to make our transport safer and this will do just that with permanent staff overseeing the new barriers These are the first new gates in 10 years, with more to come and it’s the start of our multi-million pound investment to overhaul our Metro - with a new fleet, upgraded signalling system and the extension of the network to Washington 🚇

How do you save North East schools £100,000 per year for books, school supplies and the best days out? Simple - put solar panels on their roof. So that’s what we did for 23 schools in Sunderland and Northumberland. Lower energy bills, more money for kit, kids loving their contribution to the environment and the panels were fitted by north east workers too! Green energy 🤝 green jobs 🤝opportunity

Happy Mayor’s Fares on Tyne and Wear Metro day! 🎉 You told me fares were too high so we’re were making the biggest cut for more in more than 20 years. From today, with Pop Pay As You Go, you'll pay no more than £2.50 for a single journey or £5 per day, no matter how far you travel

Our Metro will be world-class 🚇 - Extension to Washington confirmed ✅ - A new fleet rollout ✅ - Upgraded signalling system coming soon ✅ Great to visit the Stadler depot with Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander and MP Catherine McKinnell to show them our new Tyne and Wear Metro trains. More and more are coming into service so we can expect performance to keep improving.
