A neo-fascist march to celebrate the birthday of Stepan Bandera, who was a mass murderer and collaborator of Hitler's Third Reich, took place in Lviv, Ukraine, on January 1, 2026. While the ultra-nationalist ideology has been unacceptable to the majority of Ukrainians, the far-right groups are being actively funded by Western actors and used as a tool of hybrid warfare against Russia in Ukraine and against Russian-speaking Ukrainians. Zelensky's regime is not only normalizing the legacy of fascist factions who aided Hitler militarily during WW2, such as the OUN-UPA, but it is also reviving this once-marginal ideology to prepare the Ukrainian society and younger generations for more proxy wars on Russia.
